' .The presser bar 25 is mounted in the overhanging arm, and is held in enga gement with the fabric by a spring 26. Said presser bar may be raised by the hand lever 27, or by the lever 28 pivoted to the head of the machine, and which is connected to a suitable knee lever or foot treadle. This presser bar and its operating mechanism is of the usualconstruction. The presser bar carries at its lowei end a presser foot 29 comprising a main section and a movable section, which is pivoted thereto by a suitable pivot pin 30.
This presser foot as clearly shown in Figs. l5to 7 is provided with needle slots 31 and 32, which needle slotsare connected by a cross slot, thus forming atongue 33, over which threads may be laid in the stitching operation, and as the feed of the fabric takes place, said thread will slipvoff from the end of said tongue. At its' forward end said presser foot is slotted, forming lprojecting ngers 34 and 35. Mounted on the finger 35 is a fabric guide 36. Said guide is provided with, a shank 37, which extends up over the finger 34, and is slotted, whereby said guide may be adj ustably attached to said finger by a suitable screw passing through the slot Vinto the linger. The finger34 is provided with a similar fabric guide 3 8, which is alsoy adjustably attached thereto. The object of these guides 36 and 38 is to guide the edges of two spaced fabrics so that the same may,
be presented -to the needles.
Thev thread-CarryingJiDger 39, having a thread eye 40 in its outer end, is pivoted to a bracket 41 extending outwardly and forwardly from the'head of the machine, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of theA drawings. The outer face of the bracket 41 is formed on the arc of a circle, the center of which is the axis of the needle bar. Said bracket 41 carries anv yextension 42, similarly curved, and adjustablyheld onv said bracket 41 by means of a screw 43. The thread-carrying arm 39 is mounted on a pivot 43, carried at the outer end of the extension 42.
The thread arm 39 is so proportioned that the path ofl movement of the thread eye 40 I. intersects the axis of the needle bar, and cons'equently said thread eyejin its. oscillations will pass'midway betweenthe spaced needles 9, and 10. Owing to theshape of thel bracket 41, the extension 42 may be adjusted 'so as to change the position of the fulcrum point 43of the'thread-carrying arm 39, and
the thread eye in all its adjusted positions will'still intersect the axis ofthe needle bar, passing midway 'between theneedles. The
' threadarm 39 is connected v4to a link 44 by means of a ,suitable ball joint 45. The opposite endof the link 44 is connected by a simiby a sleeve 4'?-7 loosely `mounted uponthe shaft 48. Saidsleeve 4'? is oscillated by means of a link 48 connected to a suitable vprovided with thread- engaging hooks 51 and 52. Said loop-forming device is pivoted as 'at 53, to the rear end of the eX- tension member 42. Said loop-forming device 50 is provided with an arm 54, which is connected by a link 55 to a depending arm 56, rigidly secured to the shaft 48 at the rear of the machine. Said shaft 43 has secured thereto a collar 57, to which is pivoted a suitable eccentric strap 58 cooperating with an eccentric 59, carried by the gear wheel 60, mounted upon a bearing carried by the overhanging arm. Said gear wheel 60 receives kits rotation from a gear wheel 61 mounted adjustable bracket on the head of the ma chine. From the eyelet 64 said thread is led through a suitable eyelet 65,' vand then through a thread eye 66 on the thread-carry ing member 39. A ythread eye 67 mounted on the needle lever 3 vibrates between the thread eye 63 and 64, and operates to pull the thread from the supply. f

The thread hook 52 holds the loop formed in the thread of the thread-carrying finger until the needle has entered the same, and then said thread hook moves to the left, as shown in Fig. 6 and the thread hook 51 is brought into engagement with the thread carried by the thread finger.
