AssIIGNoR 'ro oHIo.

Mor-HOLDER. A
To all 'whom t may concern." Y
Be itknown that I, AJOHN J. PHARE, a citizen of 'the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the countyoflCuyahoga and State of Ohic,"have invented' `"certain new and useful Improvements in 'Mo Holders, of which the following is a speci cation.
My invention relates to mop holders and has for its object the provision of a mop holder comprising a head having improved means for securing the mop "thereto consisting of hooked memberspivotallymounted thereon and adapted to engage the mop.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a front view of a mop head and mop in a clamped position thereon; Fig. 2, a side view; Fig. 3, a longitudinal sectional view of the mop head; and Fig. 4, a
detail view of a modifiedform of engaging members.
My invention relates to mop heads for holding sanitary mops such as used in hospitals and the like, that are usually con structed with a transverse web `holding the iibers of the mop together in their middles. The construction of mop heads for these mops heretofore has made itnecessary to provide the transverse web with eyeleted holes, and my invention provides for securing a mop to the head to the exclusion of the use of the eyeleted holes.v
In the drawings, I have illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and similar reference characters willbe used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My improved mop head consists of a cas ing indicated generally at 1 having a socket 2 to receive the end ofa handle 'A that is secured thereto by a rivet or other fastening means a. The cross bar of the mop head is as shown, formed with a longitudinal channel with its sides preferably inclined toward one another, the longitudinal bar being indicated generally at 3 and the inclined sides at 4.
5 indicated braces connecting the outer ends of the cross head 3 with the socket member 2, said braces being spaced apart as shown at 6. I preferably form said mop head from a sheet metal blank bent into the shape described, though, I do not .conine myself to this structure. Secured in Specication of Letters Patent.
Aweb 8 of the mop ally secured tothe langes4 TED-STATES fl y f "'PatentedMar.16,1915. l Appiicatiiimea april 22, 11912.' seriailvaesaaele.
10 indicates levery arms l that ink 1, 2 1.,.. i
and 3 are formed witheye-'loops 11 pivotl of the cross bar 3 by means of 'thefpins' 1'2, said`l ever arms being provided on narrower-ends with. hookshaped points13,4 while their upper v t portions 14, then upwardly inclined portions ends are"formed1 with inwardly inclined 15, and their `upper terminals formed'with outwardly extending portions 16'that form finger holds for grasping vthe levers and operating them. When the levers are in an operative position, it will be understood as shown by the drawings that the upright portions 15 engagethe sides of the handle A where engaged by the socket 2, the inwardly inclined portions 14permitting said engagement, while the finger-hold portions 16 eX- tend outwardly from the handle toenable the operator to easily grasp therlever for swinging it away from the handle to release the mop. l The4 cross bar 3 is provided with slots 17 to receive the hooks 13 and permit movement of the hooks in swinging the levers to release the-mop. In use, it will be understood that to secure the mop to the head the levers' are swung into their outward position toA withdraw the hooks from the mop head, and
vso`
after the screw pin 7 has been inserted in the web 8, the levers 16 are thenswung over into the position shown inv Fig. 1 and the mop Vwill be securely fastened to the head. To release the mop it will be apparent that a reversal of the operation just described is f y only necessary and said operation can 'be accomplished without necessitating grasping the mop with the hands.
In Fig. 4 I have illustrated a modified form of the lever, in which the lever is constructed ofy sheet metal and indicated generally at 21, the hooked portionvbeing des- 'ignated 22 while 23 indicatesk an integral lug formed withfan opening'24 to receive the pin on the mop head designated 12 in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
I-Iaving thus described my invention what I claim is 1. A mop holder comprising ahead, sharp pointed hooks pivoted thereto and provided with handles, the points of said hooks being adapted on movement of the handles in one direction, first topiercethe mop andi then to draw the same against the mop head.
2. In a mop holder, a head, hooks pivot-` ally secured to Said head and projecting therefrom, said hooks being provided With sharp engaging points that are adapted to pierce the mop and moving in the direction away from the middle ofthe mop head and engaging the mopr fabric to stretch said fabric thereon.
3. A mop holder comprising a. Gross bar and a socket adapted to engage the handle of the mop,' Said cross bar having slots therein, and hooks pvotally engaging said cross bar and operating in'Said.,'slotSy toengage al mop."
4. A mop holder comprising .a socket handle,l a Y adapted to. engage the end 0f cross bar Von Said socket, said orosei bar being provdedwth. longitudinal, slots., leverspivvQtally Secured', tO'Sad Cross bar, and hooks mia of @his paren; may be @beamed m.
'cross bar,
formed-integral Withrsaid levers and operating in said slots, said hooks having sharp engaging pointsjthat are adapted to engage a mop. er c 5. A mop holder comprising a socket to engage the end of a handle, a cross bar on said socket, said cross bar being provided with longitudinal slots, a cork screw-shaped pin secured intermediate of the ends of said levers pivotally secured to said cross bar, and hooks formed integral with said levers and operating in said Slots, said hooks and pin being adapted to engage a AIn testimony whereof I affix my` signature in presence oftwof witnesses.;
