- My invention has for its object to provide a twine cutter, which I prefer to mount on a ring, which may be worn on a finger of the user, and which has two pairs of arms, each pair of arms having pivoted terminals, and another set of terminals, to which a cutting member is pivoted, so that springs, which are provided, will hold the arms and the cutting members yieldingly in operative position, and the arms pivoted to each cutting member will direct the cutting member when it is moved against the tension of the spring.

TWINE-CUTTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 15, 1912. Serial No. 731,515.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GLENN A. MoRnnLL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Twine-Cutter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a twine cutter, which I prefer to mount on a ring, which may be worn on a finger of the user, and which has two pairs of arms, each pair of arms having pivoted terminals, and another set of terminals, to which a cutting member is pivoted, so that springs, which are provided, will hold the arms and the cutting members yieldingly in operative position, and the arms pivoted to each cutting member will direct the cutting member when it is moved against the tension of the spring.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention; Fig. 2 is an elevation, with parts broken away, to show the position of the members; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a plan view of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view, showing how the cutting members are mounted.
My cutter is so constructed that while it affords a convenient means for cutting twine, it does not encumber the wearer or interfere with his work, and there is little danger of the cutter becoming entangled in the materials with which the person wearing the cutter is working.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that a ring 5 is provided. with a frame member 6, having an opening 7, with slots 8, disposed substantially at right angles with the sides of the opening 7. In each of the slots 8, there is pivoted at the points 9. arms 10, having slots 11, in each of which a cutting member 12 is disposed. These cutting members 12 are pivoted to the arms 10, at the points 13. The cutting members 12 are also pivoted at the points 14 to the arms 15, which are pivoted at the points 16 in the slots 8.
As will be seen by referring to the drawings the upper part 17 of each of these arms 15 is bent in the general direction of the top of the arms 10, and springs 18 are provided, which are coiled on the pivots 1% and have terminals 19, disposed in channel portions 20 of the arms 15, these springs 18 also havlng portions 21, which press against the rear sides 22 of the cutting members 12, to hold the cutting members 12 yieldingly extended in the opening 7. The movement of the cutting members 12 under the influence of the springs 18 is limited by the engagement of the shoulders 12 on the cutting members 12 with the arms 10 at l0 adjacent the slots 11.
As will be. best seen by referring to Fig. 2 of the drawings. each of these cutting members 12 is mounted in this manner. and the forward points 23 of the cutting members overlap each other.
When the device is constructed as set forth, a piece of twine mav be pressed against the cutting members 12, and into the opening 7 in the frame 6 of the ring 5, and as the twine is pressed inwardly. it will move the cutting members 12 apart. so that the twine at the place to be cut is inclosed by this frame member 6 and the cutting members 12. IVith the twine in this position the twine cutter will be drawn away from the twine so that the twine will be cut b the lower cutting edges 12 of the cuttime member.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a cutter. a frame, two pairs of arms pivoted to the frame, the arms of each pair extending in the same general direction from their pivots, a cutter member for each pair of arms pivoted thereto at points spaced apart, the cutter members normally overlapping for a portion of the lengths of their cutting edges, and resilient means for bolding the cutter members yieldingly in a predetermined position relatively to the frame.
2. In a cutter, a frame having an outer face and an opening extending inwardly therefrom. two arms pivoted to the frame, one at each side of the opening and extending outwardly, two cutter members extending into the opening and pivoted to the arms adiacent the outer face of the frame, two additional arms pivoted to the frame and to the cutter members at the outer sides of Patented Jan. 19, 1915. i
