JOHN STURROCK, OF CHICAG'C', ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOE TO INTERNATIONAL F-IAEVES'IER COMPANY OF NEVI JERSEY, A CGRPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
REEL-ARItI-A'ITACl-IING MEANS FOR HARVESTERS OR THE LIKE.
Application filed September 18, 1913.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN STURROCK, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Iteel-Arm-Attaching Means for Harvesters or the like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to reel arm attaching means for harvesters or the like.
Ithas for its object to attach a steel reel arm of channel construction to a harvester or similar reel bracket in an improved manner so that the arm is securely positioned upon the bracket and rigidly attached thereto. I attain this object by the provision of improved attaching means cooperating with the reel arm and the bracket and attaching the arm securely in position upon the bracket.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown, for purposes of illustration, one embodiment which my invention may assume in practice.
Figure l is a side elevation of a bracket equipped with my improvement; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 of Fig. 1.
In the construction shown I have illustrated a reel bracket 1 of standard construction having a plurality of sockets or arms 2 protruding radially therefrom, in which the reel arms 3 of channel form are positioned by my improved attaching means. These attaching means are shown to comprise an elongated attaching plate 4 of spring sheet metal construction and arcuate cross section receivable between the sides of the arms 3 and positioned between these sides by a bolt 5. As shown, this bolt is provided with a head 6 having a concave inner surface adapted to conform to the convex surface of the plate 4, and a shank which extends through the plate and a suitable opening 7 in the bottom of the arm 3, as well as the bracket arm 2; a nut 8 carried on the bolt shank and clamped against the outer surface of the bracket arm 2 serving to clamp the plate 4 securely in expanded position,
Specification of Letters Patent.

so that the edges of the same bite against the metal of the reel arms at points ad jacent the junction of the sides thereof, and securely clamp these arms in position within the channel portion of the bracket arms 2. It is to be noted in this connection that the provision of a single bolt 5, which extends through the inner end of the plate 4, at a point adjacent the inner end of the bracket arm 2, serves to prevent effectually any movement of the arm 3 relative to the bracket arm 2, and that, in effect, an integral construction is provided capable of withstanding any angular strains and stresses upon the arm 3. Attention is further directed to the fact that the attaching means are very simple and of a type which may be very readily and cheaply constructed and readily applied to or removed from the reel brackets when desired.
lVhile I have in this application described one form which my invention may assume in practice, it is, of course, to be understood that the form shown herein is susceptible of being modified without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination, a reel bracket, a channeled reel arm seated therein, an expansible locking member seated in the channel in said reel arm, and means for clamping said expansible member to said bracket.
2. In combination, a reel bracket having a reel arm socket, a channel reel arm eated therein, a yielding locking plate of arcuate cross section having its edges engaging the inner surface of said reel arm, and means clamping said plate to said bracket.
3. In combination, a reel bracket having a socket therein, a channeled reel arm seated in said socket, a locking member seated in the channel in said arm having a cut edge engaging one wall thereof, and means for clamping said locking member to said bracket.
4. In combination, a reel bracket having a radially protruding channel arm, a channel steel reel arm seated therein, an elongated holding plate of arcuate cross section In testimony whereof I afiix my signahaving its edges engaging With the inner ture, in the presence of two Witnesses. surface of said reel arm at points adjacent JOHN STURROCK.
