Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Application ledv August 23, 1913. Serial No. 786,259..
.To all 'whom t may conce/m:
Be it known that l, Lewis WOLF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of McNabb, county of Putnam, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carbureters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in carbureters and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this' character whereby the fuel charge for explosive engines is thoroughly mixed and gasi- -iied before entering' the englne.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by :reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and which is a sectional View of a construction embodying my invention.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated comprises a fuel supply pipe 13 which is provided with a valve 14 for controlling the passage of fuel therethrough,
said fuel supply pipe communicating with a charge supply pipe 9 passing transversely through the ordinary exhaust pipe 3 of the engine. Supply pipe 9 is providedwith a brous noncombustible material 10 which is arranged both in the portion extending through pipe 3 and also for a considerable distance below pipe 8. Pipe 9 is'provided with a valve 11' for controlling the passage of air therethrough and alsoV with a fuel priming cup 12 for heating the same when desired. Fuel supply pipe 13 is connected with pipe 9 and extended into' the fibrous.
material 10 as shown. -By this larrangement, it will be observed that both the air and fuel are passed through heated fibrous material before passing to the engine so that a thorough mixture is obtained which has been heated to facilitate the explosion.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carryin my invention into effect, this is capable oi.' variation and modification without departing from the spirit` of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited tothe precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as Vcome within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with the exhaust ipe of an explosive engine, of a char e su p y pipe' extending transversely throng sai exhaust'w pipe and connected with the engine; fibrous material in said charge supply pipe in the portion in said exhaust pipe and in the portions beyond said exhaust pipe; a fuel cup on said fuel supply pipe around said fibrous a' material; and valved means for admitting air and fuel to said charge pipe before itY passes through said exhaust pipesubstan tially as described.
In testimony whereof I have s'igned my 'n name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEWIS WOLF.`
