Similar letters of 'reference indicate corresponding parts. My invention has for its object to furnish au iniproved device for holding postage andinternal-revenue stamps, designed more especially for use in post oices and other places where stamps are sold at retail, which shall be so constructed that the different denominations will be held distinctly in view, aud in such a way that they may bey easily and quickly deis a front View 'of my improved stamptached, when required, and which shall be simple in construction and easily and4 conveniently operated; and
It consistsiu the construction and combination of the various parts of the apparatus, as hereinafter more fully described.
.A is the case or frameof the holder, the rear' side a of which is hinged at one edge, and secured by a lbolt .or other convenient fastening, so as to allow ready access to the interior of the holder. B are slats extendingacross the forward part of the case A and forming the frontside of said case. Any desired number ofslats B lmay be used, according to thc number of different denominations to be kept for sale or which are ordinarily called for.
The slats B are pivotedat their ends, a little below `-their upper edges, to the ends of the case A bythe pivots 1)', in suolil positions that the upper. edge of each lower slat may overlap theilower edge of the adjacent upper slat, as shown iuvig. 2.
C are small rollers, let into the lower part of the inner sides of the slats B, and pivoted to said slats. lwo or more rollers 0 may be used with each slat, which said two or three rollers may bc all attached to the same rod or shaft so as to revolve together, or cach roller may revolve independently.
The rollers C are designed to press the sheets of stamps against the 'feedrollers D, so that they may feed forward by the revolution ofthe said feed-rollers I).
The rollers U are pivoted to the ends of the slats A, and' have rubber tubing, d1, placed upon them, directly opposite the rollers C.
The rollers l), at one end, pass' through the casing A, and have knobs, di, attached to them, by means of which they are revolved to feed the sheets of stamps forward,
E are' cam or eccentric rods orrollersfwhich are pivoted to the casing A, and project at one end, prei'- erably the end opposite to that through which thc ends of the feed-rollers 'D project, through the said casing A, and have knobs, el, attached to said projecting lends for convenience in operating them.
The cam-rollers E are pivoted to the case Ain such positions that the cams e2 may be turned against the veniently removed to have the sheets of stamps wound upon them.. By gumming theedges of several sheets of stampsto each other any desired number of said sheets may be wound upon the said rollers.
H are springs, attached to the strips G, and the free ends of which rest upon the rollers F,vor upon the sheets of stamps wound uponsaid rollers, to keep the. said sheets wound-closely upon the said rollers.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim Aas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 11 AThe combination of therpivoted 'slots B, pressurerollers C, feed-rollers D, cam-rollers E, receiving-rollers F, and springs H with each other, and with the case or'box A, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposeset forth.
' J ULIUS ROPES.
