This invention relates to collapsible lunch boxes. I i

One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a durable paper lunch box which can be quickly expanded for use in carrying alunchand which can be immediately folded into a flat condition to be carried in the pocket.

Another object of the invention is to provide a paper lunch box which can be expanded to contain a lunch and which will be provided with a paper handle extending around the box to form a brace, said handle being formed of a strip of paper which serves as a latch for holding the cover closed and which also serves to hold the box in collapsed or flat condition for carrying in the pocket.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designatesvthe bottom of the box, 2 are the ends, 3 is the front side, 4: is the back, and 5 is the cover. The ends2 are provided with flanges 6, and when the front and the back A are bent upward upon the lines a the flanges 6 are bent at right angles to the ends 2 and secured upon the outer-sides of the front and back, as shown more clearly in Fig. 1. The cover 5 which is formed integral with the body portion of the box is also provided with a down turned flange 7 which overlaps the frontedge of the box when closed.

A paper strap 8 is secured to the top or cover 5 by means of fasteners 9 to form the handle. 10. A ball and socket fastener is utilized for holding the cover closed when the box is expanded and also for holding the'box in a collapsed or folded position when empty. The ball member 11 of the fastener is secured to the front of the box and the end of the strap 8 is provided with a socket 12 to receive the ball member and thus hold the box in closed position when expanded.

When the box is empty and in condition to be folded flat, the bottom 1 is folded on the central line b, as shown in Fig. 1, and the ends 2 are folded on a central vertical line 0. The bottom 1 is also folded on the converging lines d and when the parts are brought together the strap 8 extends around the box and the end of the strap engages the ball member 11, said strap having a socket member connected thereto [at the proper point to hold the box folded flat.

From the foregoing, it will be obvious that a folding lunch box made in accordance with this invention may be formed of paper or leather which will carry a sufficient lunch and when the lunch has been removed, the box can be folded and placed in the pocket to be used the next day. The box is durable in construction, is braced by the handle strap and when folded occupies but little space in the pocket. The lunch box can be cut from a piece of paper without material waste and can be produced at low cost.

Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
