This invention relates to new and 1mproved bottle-handling apparatus and particularlyto apparatus for transferringlbottles from one crate to another and inverting them in the process of transferring them.
yOne object of this invention is to provide an apparatus of this character which can be easily operated and which will' quickly transfer the bottles from one`crate to another crate without chipping o r breaking the bottles and which will eliminate any necessity of the operator touching the boton line -JZ, Fig. 1. By referring to the drawings it will .be seca that my improved machine compries in general a main frame and 1a rotatabe traine mounted in and supported by said niain frame. The main.frame/comprises a bed or table l having vertically arranged side members or standards 2 which extend up from each side of the table near the centcr thereof. In the top of the bed or table is formed an oblong opening 3. On the inner face of each of the said standards i2 is arranged an annular track 5 outer surface of said track are arranged a series of'pins 6 which forni a segmental gear and on the which extends around-'somewhat lessthan ya quarter of the circumference of thel said Nearthe center of each standard g2, onY the inner face thereof, is arrangeda circular groove or guideway 7 and this guideway communicates toward the base of the standard with a straight 'vertically arranged guideway 8, the two guideways forming what might be termed a cam groove.v
On the top of the table at each end thereofA are mountedtracks 9, which extend from the side edges of thesaid standards 2 to beyond the ends of the said table. These tracks are angle shaped in cross-section and "are spaced a sufficient distance apartto support and guide a bottle-holding (irate.
It may be here stated that the bottle crates used in the machine are of thetype now in common use and in the drawings one bottle crate is shown in the lower part of the rotatable frame right sideI up and containing bottles and another crate is shown inverted in the upper part of the rotatable frame. Each crate comprises side inembersa generally of wood and a bottom formed of a series of parallel wires Z). are arranged a distance above the bottom to'further position the bottles.
The rotatable frame comprises a bottle guiding' frame and vtwo crate-carrying frames. The three frames are operatively connected so that they can be vpartially rotated as one frame. In the position of the machine shown in the drawings one cratecarrying frame occupies a position below the bottle guiding frame and the other cratecarrying frame occupies a position above the bottle-guiding frame and the upper crate-` carrying frame is inverted, but when the rotatable frame is turned through half a revolution the position of the crate-carrying frames will of course be reversed.
v The bottle-guiding frame comprises a rectangular frame which in cross-section corresponds in size and shape to a crosssection of a bottle-crate. Within the said frame l5 are arranged guide members 16 of suitable shape and construction'for dividing theinterior of the frame into as many separate passageways or guideways as there are bottles in .a crate.
On opposite sides of the bottle-guiding frame adjacent to the standards 2 are formed lugs 17. Vhen the rotatable frame is raised, as hereinafter described, the rollers on the arms ot the lower crate-carrying frame will travel up the said gaideways S and enter the circular guideways 7. T hen when the rotatable frame is turned the rollers on the arms of each crate-carrying trame will travel around said circular guideways 7 and when the upper crate-carrying frame reaches the position formerly occupied by the lower crate-carrying trame. 'the rollers thereon will pass down into the straight guideways'- S. ln each of the arms 30 is iormeda longied to loosely receive one of the aforementioned guide bars 24. In the peripheries of the said rollers 52 are 'former holes .vhich are adapted to receive the pins 6 which form' the segmental gear on said tracks 5. 4The said bearings 50 support a cross-bar 55 which extends parallel with the shaft 5l, but is spaced a short distance therefrom and on said cross-bar are arranged bosses in which are formed square openings 57. Three of these bosses 56 are shown 'and each boss is located directly in line with a bottle in a bottle crate, In the holes or` openings 57 in each of said bosses 56 is slidably arranged a push bar 59 which carries a rectangular shaped head 60 which is adapted to pass up between the wires which ormthe bottoni of the crate and engage the bottom of a bottle therein. Each of the said push bars 59 carries a rack (il Other push bars 6 3 having heads 64 are connected with the push 'bars 59 so that there is one push bar for each bottle in the crate. On theshaft 5l is secured a series of gearvwheels and each gear wheel is arranged to mesh with the rack on an adjacent push bar lVhen the said shaft 51 is rotated the gear wheels thereon will be driven and as said wheels are in engagement with the racks on the plush bars 59 the said push bars 59 and the push bars connect-ed therewith will be rshoved up into engagement with the bottoms of the bottles in the crates.
T he operation of the device is as follows: An empty crate is placed' inverted in the crate-carrying frame in the top part of the machineand a full crate is placed in the crate-carrying frame in the bottom ofthe machine. The operator then takes hold-ot the handle 4.4 on the lever 40 and turns the lever in the directionindicated by the arrow.V
On' the first movement ofthe said lever the lower crate-carrying frame is .raised bodily until the bottle crate .therein isbrought up againstthe bottle-guiding frame. On the further movement of the lever the rotatable frame will be swung around and as it moves the rollers 52 on the lower crate-carrying .trame will engagewith the segmental gear ou the tracks 5 causing the shaft 51 to be rotatedthereby rot-ating the gears thereon which are in mesh with the racks on the I push bars so that the said push bars will engage' with the bottles in the crate and shove said bottles through the bottle-guiding frame and into the empty\ crate. After the rotatable frame has completed a half revoplaced in the lower cratescarrying frame.
What I claim is*- l. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination of a stationary frame, a rotatable frame mounted olrsaid stationary fr-aine, a crate 'carrying trai e arranged at each end of said rotatable frame,
said crate-carrying frames being oppositely disposed and means for rotating said r'otatable traine.

In an 'apparatus of character described, the combination of a stationary frame, a rotatable frame mounted in said stationary frame, said rotatable traine comprising a centrally arranged bottle guiding traine and a crate-carrying trame arranged at each side ot said bottle-Guiding 'frame and oppositelydispose'd, anc means for rotating said rotatable frame. 3. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination of a stationary frame, a rotatable frame mounted in said stationary traine, said rotatable frame comprising acentrally arranged bottle-guiding frame and a pair of crate-receiving frames, the said crate-receiving frames being mounted at the ends of the said rotatable frame and being oppositely disposed so that the tops of the said crate-receiving trames are adjacent to the said bottleguiding frame and means for engaging with and forcing the bottles in one crate through said bottleguiding frame into the other crate.

In an apparatusot` the character described, the combination ot a stationary traine, said stationary frame being provided with standards, a track carried each standard, a rotatable Jframe mounted yin each stationary frame, said rotatable frame comprising a bottle-guiding vtrame and two crate-carrying trames, said crateoarrying frames being oppositely disposedv and mountedl at each side of the bottleguiding frame and rolle s mounted on said crate-carryingframe and adapted to have traction on the said tracks the said standards.

In an apparatus or' the character described, the combination 'of a stationary traine, said stationary trame being pro- Tvided with standards, a circular guideway formed on the inner tace of each of said standards, a straight guideway communicating witheach circular guideway nearthe base or' the standard, a rotatable trame mounted between said standards, the bearings for said trame being arranged at the centers of. said circular guideways, said frame ccanprising a bottle-guiding frame and two oppositely disposed crate-carrying 'trames rollers carried by said crate-carry ingramealthel rollers on the upper :ratecarrying frame extending into-'the said circular guideways and the rollers on the lower crate-carrying frame extending into the straight gu-ideways, means for raising the lower 'crate-carrying Yframe so as to bring the rollers vthereon into the circular guideand means for rotating said rotatable traine.
In an apparatus of the character described, the combination of a stationary7 frame, said stationary frame being pro vided with standards,- a circular guidewayV arranged on the inner face of each standard and a straight guideway communicating with saidcircular guideway, a rotatable trame mounted between said standards, the axis of rotation of said frame being at the center or said circular guideway, said rotatable frame comprising a bottle guiding frame and a cratecarrying Ytrame at each side of the bottle-guiding frame, said cratecarrying frames being free to slide toward and away from the bottle-guiding frame, operating levers mounted on the rotatable trame and links operatively connecting said levers with the crate-carrying frames so that the operation of said levers will-impart a rertical movement to the crate-carrying frame and a rotating movement to the rotatable frame. In an apparatus of the character described, the combination of a. stationary frame, said stationary trame being provided ,with standards, a segmental gear arranged on each standard, a rotatable frame mounted between said standards, said rotatable frame comprising a bottle-guiding trame and two oppositely disposed cratecarrying frames, bearings arranged on the bottoms of the cratecarrying trames, shafts mounted in the said bearings, rollers secured on the ends of said shafts and adapted to engage withithe segmental gears, push'bars supported from the bottoms of said cratecarrying frames, racks carried by said push bars and gear wheels mounted on said shafts and adapted. to engage with the said racks on said push bars, for the purpose set forth.
