Description

X144? 4 3% 7' v 5 fl//// Z- CHARLES H. TEXTER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MILK-BOTTLE.
Specification of LettersPatent.
Patented Aug. 18-, 1914.
Application filed December 16, 1913. Serial No. 807,098.
b all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. Tnxrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to bottles, and more particularly to that class of bottles primarily designed for containing milk, and
has for an object to provide a milk bottle having a pouring spout and a means for seating the usual cap or closure on the bottle.
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a bottle preferably formed of a piece of glass and which provides an integral head formed at the upper end of the neck, the said head having a pouring spout and providing a seat for the usual disk-like cap or closure ordinarily employed in connection with milk bottles.
The invention further embodies a pouring spout which, when milk is poured from the bottle, will prevent drippings of the milk from dropping on to the bottle on account of the peculiar formation of the spout.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a' perspective view of the bottle; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view showing the construction of the upper end of the neck of the bottle; and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectlonal view taken through the spout, the cap having been removed from the bottle.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a bottle body 10 including an integral neck,11 terminating in an enlarged circular head 12 and which is formed to pro vide an outer convex face 13 and an inner convex face 14, the said outer and inner convex faces at their point of juncture being adapted to form a rounded edge 15. The inner convex face 14 terminates at its inner end in an inclined inner face 16 and which is inclined toward the outer convex face 13 to form a horizontal circular seat 17 adapted to receive the usual cap 18 for closing the bottle body 10. By havin the face 16inclined as mentioned, it will e apparent that when the cap has once been wedged into closed position on the bottle body it will be prevented from accidental removal from closed position and can only be removed by applying a suitable cap removinginstrurnent to the cap or by perforating the cap in order to partially collapse the same and then withdrawing the cap from the bottle body. A pouring spout 19 is formed with the head 12, the said pouring spout being formed above the seat 17 and including a lateral portion 20 and an integral abruptly depending lip 21 formed at the outer end of the lateral portion 20. By having the lip 21 abruptly depending as mentioned, when milk is poured from the bottle, drippings of the milk will be prevented from dropping on the bottle body, as will be readily understood by referring to the views.
When the cap 18 is arranged in position on the seat 17 the same will close-the bottle body so that milk cannot be poured out of the bottle by way of the spout 19 and which is formed exteriorly of the bottle body. It will be understood that the head 12 and spout 19 of the head are formed integrally cheaply manufactured and which will pre-- sent a neat appearance, while at the same time it will be sanitary and will permit of easily pouring milk therefrom.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: I
As a new article of manufacture, a milk bottle comprising a bottle body. having an .integral neck, a head formed at the upper end of the neck and enlarged to provide an outer convex face and an inner convex face, with the said outer and inner convex faces terminating at their juncture in a rounded edge, the said inner convex face being formed to provide an inner inclined face forming a horizontal seat in the head, with the said seat adapted to receive a cap, and a pouring spout formed with the head and projecting from the outer convex face, wlth the said pouring spout terminating in an In testimony whereof I afiix my signature abruptly depending 11p having a knob at its in presence of two wltnesses.
extremity said pourin spout being further formed to extend ent i rely across the said CHARLES TEXTER' 5 head and having its bottom at the inner end VVit-nesses:
straight and at the outer end curved down- J AS. G. HUGHES, Wardly. BLANCHE E. SHEPHARD.
