Description

B. w. TUTHILL.
Wheelbarrow. No. 110,698; Patented Jan. 3.1871.
fiwimasazsz N, PETERS. PNOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BEOKWITH W. TUTHILL, OF OREGONOITY, OREGON.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHEELBARROW-FRAM ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110,698, dated January 3, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BECKWITH W. TUT- HILL, of Oregon City, in the county of Clackamas and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Frame for VVheelbarrows and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of a wheelbarrow constructed with my improved frame. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the said frame.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new construction of metallic frames for wheelbarrows; and it consists in making the two side bars or pieces of the frame, together with the handles, all of one continuous piece of tubing. Great strength and. simplicity of construction are thus obtained.
A A in the drawing are the side pieces of the main supporting-frame, they being continued backward to form the handles a a. Their front ends are connected by an arch, I). All the said parts, a, A, b, A, and a, are
made of one continuous piece of tubing, and constitute the main frame of the wheelbarrow. The side pieces A are strengthened by suitable transverse braces c c.
The boxes d, for the support of the front axle B, are secured to the front part of the frame, as shown.
The tray 0 is fitted upon and in suitable manner securedQto the frame. 0 e are feet, secured to the under side of the frame, for supporting the wheelbarrow in a horizontal position.
The arch bin front of the frame serves not only to connect and strengthen the front end of the side pieces, but. also to sustain and steady the front of the tray, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The wheelbarrow-frame composed of the side pieces A, with the front arch b, all made of one continuous piece of tubing, as specified.
BEOKWITH W. TUTHILL.
