EVELYN M. JONES, OF REEDLEY, CALIFORNIA.
COOK-STOVE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EVELYN M. JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reedley, in the county of Fresno, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cook-Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improvements in cook stoves, and has for its object to so construct the same that the heat for the oven will be equally distributed there-around.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cook stove that either wood or coal may be used for fuel, and is so constructed thatthe intense heat from the fire box will be directed upon the bottom of the oven, and is'thence deflected around the oven and over the top of the same.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the stove.-
Fig. 3 is a vertical Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Fig. 4 18 a sec transverse sectional view. tional view on line 44 of Fig. 3'. Fig. 5 is a horizontal view on line 5-5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a similar view on line 66 of Fig. 4. Fig. 7 is a sectional view on line 7-7 of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a rear view of the stove.
Referring to the drawing,-the numeral 1 designates the body of the stove, which is rectangular in cross section, and comprises a front wall 2, side walls 3 and rear wall 4, the same being connected in any suitable manner.
The fire box 5 extends from the front wall 2 to the rear wall 4, the sides'6 of which terminate in inclined plates 7 which have their upper edges connected to the side walls 3 of the body 1, it being of course understood that the plates 7 are of the same length as the sides of the fire box. The fire box 6 is provided with grate bars 8, which may be of any well known construction and capable of supporting wood or coal fuel.
The front wall 2 is provided with an opening 9 for the passage of the ash pan 10, which rests upon the bottom 11.

g The oven 12 consists of sides 13, a bottom and a top 14 and 15, respectively, and a back 16, which rests flush against the rear wall 4 of the body 1, and is connected thereto in any suitable manner. The'forward edges of the sides 13 are connected to the front wall 2 so that the open end of the oven12 will be positioned in proper respect to the doorway 17, which is closed by the hingedly connected door 18, said door having connected thereto a suitable device 19 for regulating the heat within the oven 12. A feed opening 20 is formed in the front wall 2, the same being closed by a hingedly connected door 21 having a draft regulator 22 of any well known construction. I
It will be noted that the sides 13 of the oven are spaced from the inner surfaces of the side walls 3 of the body so as to provide heat flues 28. By providing the inclined plates 7, the heat from the fire box may pass to said flues and thence over the top 15 of the oven, thus effectually heating the oven. To prevent heat escapingthrough the smoke flue 24, a damper 25 is provided, said damper being provided with an actuating rod 26 which is so arranged that the damper may readily be controlled when desired.
The smoke flue 24 is formed by a plate 27, which is semi-circular in cross section and is connected to the rear wall 4 of the body, and stops at a point short of the lower edge of the rear wall 4, and has its lower end closed by a flange 28. The rear wall 4 is formed with a vertical slot 29, which opens into the flue 24 at points above and below the oven 12, the remainder of the slot being closed by the back 16 of the oven 12, thus providing a smoke outlet 30 below the oven, and a heat outlet 31 above the oven, it being of course understood that the damper 25 is manipulated to permit the products of combustion to pass around the sides of the oven when the fire is first started.
The smoke outlet 30 is provided with a damper 32, similar to the damper 25 hereinbefore mentioned.
The bottom 15 of the oven is provided with a pair of openings 33 which are directly over the fire box 5 and are closed by lids 84, whereby upon removalof the lids 34 articles being cooked in the oven will be subjected to intense heat.
A top 35 is connected to the upper end be placed therein and of thebody 1 in any suitable manner, said top being provided with removable lids 36, of the usual construction.
It is obvious that soot or ashes arising from the fire box due to shaking of the grate will be returned thereto by the inclined plates 7.
By placing the bottom of the oven directly over the fire box it is obvious that articles placed thereon will be subjected to intense heat so as to Cook quickly. Further it will be noted that by mounting the oven in the manner described articles may subjected to intense heat to start the same, after Which the drafts of the stove may be completely closed, but the cooking process Will continue, thus resulting in a great saving of fuel.
What is claimed is A cooking stove comprising a body consist ing of front, rear, and side Walls, a fire the upper edges of the sides box having its sides supported by the front and rear Walls, inclined plates connected to of the fire box,
said plates having their upper ends connected to the side Walls, an oven mounted above the fire box and supported by the front and rear alls of the body, the sides of said oven being spaced from the inner surfaces of the sides of the body, thereby providing heat flues, a plate se1ni-circular in cross section connected tothe rear Wall and forming a smoke fine, the rear Wall of the body having a vertical slot formed therein and opening into said flue, said oven having its rear Wall closing the/slot for a certain distance of its length to provid a heat outlet above the oven and a smoke outlet below the oven, and dampers for controlling the passage of heat and products of combustion to said line, as and for thepuipose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
