To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, EDUARD FRIEDRICH, engineer, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, residing at Leipzig-Plagwitz, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crushers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in Crushers, and more particularly to Crushers of that class, in which the coperating jaws are reciprocated relatively to each other at their upper' and lower ends with differentnumbers of reciprocations. And one of the objects of the improvements is to provide a Crusher of this class in which the material discharged from the crusher has a more uniform and higher degree of fmeness.
With this object in view my invention consists in so constructing the driving mechanism for the Crusher, that the movable aw has a higher number of reciprocations at its upper or inlet end than at its lower or discharge end.
For the purpose of explaining the invention an example embodying the same has been shown in the accompanying drawing, in which the same letters of reference have been used in all the views to indicate corresponding parts.
In said drawing-Figure 1, is a vertical longitudinal section of the crusher, and Fig. 2, is a plan view thereof.
Referring to the example illustrated in the drawing, the operative parts of the Crusher are mounted on a frame 1. In suitable bearings of the said frame upper and lower shafts 2 and 3 are mounted for reciproca-tion, which are equipped with eccentric disks or cams 4 and 5 respectively. One of the said shafts, in the example illustrated the upper shaft 2, carries loose and fast belt pulleys 6 and 7 respectively, and a spur gear l0 engaging a similar spur gear 11 secured to the lower shaft 3. On the eccentric disk 4 an eccentric strap 12 is mounted which is made integral with an eccentric arm 13 having a head 14. The'latter is formed at opposite sides with rounded transverse grooves providing bearings for pressure plates 15 and 16 respectively. The pressure plate 15 bears with its opposite edge in a similar groove formed in the side wall of the frame 1, and the pressure plate 16 bears with its opposite edge in a rounded groove formed in the rear face of a rocking jaw 17. At its lower end the said jaw is pivotally mounted on the eccentric disk 5 provided on the lower shaft 3. To permit adjustment of the lower end of the jaw 17 relatively to the coperating stationary jaw 18, the said movable jaw is formed with a slotted portion 19 embracing a slide block 22 mounted on the eccentric disk 5. The jaw is adjustable relatively to the slide block by means of a set screw 20 coperating with a wedge 21. While the aw 17 is adjustable relatively to lthe block 22, these parts are rigidly connected with each other during the operation of the machine,
and in operation, therefore, the block virtually forms Va part of said jaw.
The stationary jaw 18 is provided on the inner wall of the frame l. A tension rod 24 connected to the upper end of the jaw 17 and acted upon by a spring 23 tends to retract the movable jaw 17 with its upper end away from the stationary jaw, and to hold the pressure plates 15 and 16 in engagement with their respective bearings on the movable jaw, the head 14 and the frame 1.
The diameter of the spur gear 10 is smaller than that of the spur gear 11, so that the number of the reciprocations of the upper end of the movable jaw 17 under the action of the eccentric 4 is larger than the number of reciprocations of the lower end of the movable jaw, which are caused by the eccentric 5. Furthermore the eccentric 5 imparts to the jaw a continuous reciprocating movement in the direction of its length, so that the said jaw has a. rubbing action on ythe material in addition to its crushing action.
In my improved Crusher the upper end of the movable jaw has a larger number of crushing strokes than the lower end. Therefore the main part of the crushing operation is performed at the upper end of the crushing jaws, while the material is retarded at the lower end of the crushing jaws, so that there is no possibility of non-reduced material being discharged from the Crusher.
IVhile in describing the invention reference has been made to a. particular embodiment thereof which in my opinion serves the purpose best, I wish it to be understood that my invention is not limited to the example shown in the drawing, and that various changes may be made in the general arrangement and construction of the parts. For example, the shaft 3 may be driven from the shaft 2 by different means, such for instance as a belt and belt pulleys or a chain and sprocket wheels. Furthermore the shafts 2 and 3 may be driven independently, each by a belt and pulleys of its own, in which case the shaft 8 also is equipped with looee and fast pulleys.
l claim herein as iny invention:
l. ln a Crusher, the combination, with a. pair of jaws, of means to elect a relative reciprocating movement of said jaws at their lower ends, and means for effecting a relative reciprocatingl increment of the jaws at their upper ends which is faster than the relative reciprocating movement at their lower ends.
2. ln a Crusher, the combination, with a pair of jaws, oi" upper and lower shafts provided with eccentrics, connections frein said ecceu'rics to the upper and lower portions respectively oi one of said jaws, and an operative connection between Said shafts, of such a character as to cause the upper shaft to retate at a higher rate of speed than the lower shaft, whereby the upper portion of seid jaw will be reciproc-ated faster than its lower portion.
