To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY A. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-- Leaves for Folding Tables, of which thefollowing is a specification.

This invention relates to extension'leaves for folding tables.

My object is to provide a novel skeleton foldable extension leaf adapted for attachment to any object, particularly to folding tables having a table top composed of foldable arms such as the general type set forth in my Patent No. 1065476, dated June 24, 1913, of which this application is a division.

The invention consists of the foldable extension leaf set forth hereinafter, but I do not limit myself to the details of its construction as I am aware that it is susceptible of several modifications without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side view partly in section, showing a table having a foldable skeleton top to which the foldable extension leaf may be connected; Fig. 2, a plan view thereof, the leaf being in extended condition; Fig. 3, a detail view of the extension leaf folded against the parts of the skeleton table top; and Fig. 4, a detail of a connection between a brace and an arm.

The folding table has folding legs 1 pivoted to cars 3 on a head 2. Fitting down over head 2 is a slidable shell 4 having radial grooves 6. Pivoted at 7 to suitable ears on the head 2 or shell 4 are arms 8 whose inner ends lie in the grooves 6, thus bracing the arms 8 and relieving the pivots 7 of strain. As shown in Fig. 4, the arms 8 are hollow and have a slot 9 in their lower face. Each brace 10 has a reduced end 11 (Fig. 4) projecting through slot 9 and provided with a pin 12. Suitable supporting means, such as 14, are provided on the legs 1 as a rest for the braces 10.

The above is a description of one of several forms of folding skeleton top tables of which certain ones are set forth in my Patent No. 1065476, with which the extension leaf constituting the present invention may be used, as the present invention relates to the extension leaf only.

The extension leaf may be applied to the ends of any two of the arms 8.

The extension leaf is composed of members 37 pivoted to the ends of the arms 8 at 38, the members 37 having no connection with each other. Each member 37 carries articulated members 39 which can be opened out to form a skeleton or may be folded against the member 37 to which they are attached and in substantial extension or alinement with the arms 8 so as to form continuations thereof adapted to be folded with said arms and with the braces 10. Fig. 2 shows the extension leaf in extended arrangement ready for holding papers or articles and Fig. 3 discloses its arrangement when folded. When folded, the articulated members 39 fold against the member 37 which carried them.

I may provide in two of the arms 8, the depressions 40 adapted to receive the rear legs of the typewriter. At the ends of the remaining arms 8, are overhanging flanges 41 adapted to engage the front legs of the typewriter. The flanges 41 are particularly designed to engage and hold against tipping the legs of those typewriters which have off-set parts or feet. The table may be used without the flanges 41 and depressions similar to the depressions 40 may be substituted to adapt the table for the support of any standard typewriter, or, other means may be employed for attaching the typewriter to the arms 8.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An extension leaf composed of foldable main members, and a plurality of freely projecting foldable branch members jointed to the respective main members, said main and branch members being adapted for arrangement to constitute an extended leaf.

2. An extension lea-f composed of independent foldable main members, and a plurality of branch members jointed to the respective main members aforesaid but otherwise free for extension in relation to said members, the sets of main members and branch members being foldable and extensible independently of each other. 10
