To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAoon WV. SHooK, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVilliamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pot-Lid Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved device for supporting pot lids. 1

Pot lids, on account: of the knobs or handles with which they are usually provided, are unwieldy and inconvenient to dispose of and to store in cupboards or ordinary receptacles and are apt to become scattered so as to be not readily available when desired.

The present invention has for its object to provide a device whereon a number of lids of various sizes may be conveniently supported, each lid being capable of convenient access without disturbing the remaining lids.

A further object of the invention is to so construct the supporting device that it may be suspended on a wall or other support in convenient view and in a position where it will not obstruct other articles and utensils.

WVith these and other ends in View which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists inthe improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawings,Figure 1 is a top plan view of a device constructed in accordance, with the invention. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 4-4 in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective detail view of one of the wings or side members of the support. Fig. 6 is a perspective detail view of one of the spacing members. The invention in the form illustrated in Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive, comprises a base member 10 and a bracket,'which latter is composed of front and rear members 11, 12 each provided adjacent to its upper and lower ends with apertures 13 for the passage of fastening members, such as screws 14, whereby the sidemembers are mounted and connected with the base 10. Between the front and rear members 11, 12 there is interposed a plurality of spacing members each consisting of an elongated plate 15 of approximately crescent-shaped cross section, the concavity being presented in a forward direction. These spacing members are also preferably provided on their rear faces with spacing lugs 16. A plurality of these spacing members will be interposed between the front and rear members 11 and 12, where they are firmly secured by tightening the screws 14. It will thus be seen that a bracket is form-ed which is provided on each side with a plurality of vertical grooves or recesses indicated by 17.

Two supporting wings are provided, each of said wings being formed of a single piece of wire, and each wing comprising a rear limb 18, a front limb 19 which diverges outwardly with respect to the rear limb and an obliquely disposed connecting member 20 which connects the outer ends of the two limbs. The inner end of each limb is provided with an upwardly extending arm, said arms being designated, respectively, by 21 and 22. The arm 21 of the rear limb 18 is clamped between the base member 10 and the rear member 12 of the bracket; the arm 22 of the front limb 19 is clamped between the front member 11 of the bracket and a washer 23 which is fitted on the lower screw or fastening member 14. The supporting wings may be further secured by means of a washer member 24 engaging the angles formed by the rear limbs 18 and the arms 21, said washer being secured to the base 10 by means of a screw 25.

The connecting portions 20 which extend between the outer ends of the rear and front limbs 18 and 19 are corrugated to provide a series of indentations 26 in which the edges of the pot lids may be supported.

The improved device may be suspended or mounted on a wall or other stationary support by means of fastening members such as screws, for the passage of which apertures 27 are provided. It will be seen that when the device is thus mounted, pot lids of various sizes may be supported by inserting the edges thereof in the vertical grooves 17 and in the indentations 26 of the corrugated members 20. Each lid being provided with a support that engages an extended portion of the edge thereof will be maintained in an upright position so as to be conveniently accessible without disturbing the other lids, and a supporting device of the character described may readily be made to support as many as a dozen or more lids Without occupying much space.

A device constructed as described and supported above or in convenient proximity to a stove or range will be found of great convenience and advantage to the cook and housewife.

Under the modified form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8 of the drawings, the bracket portion of the device is formed of a single piece or casting, here designated by 28, the general shape and outline being substantially as previously described, or the structure embodying front and rear members 29 and 30 connected together and spaced apart by an intermediate web portion 31 provided with vertical grooves -82 in the sides thereof. When this construction is adopted, it will be necessary to provide only the rear plate of the bracket with apertures for the reception of screws or fastening members. 7

Ihe construction illustrated in Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive, will enable any desired number of spacing members to be used, and this construction will for this reason be sometimes found preferable. 7

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is

1. A pot lid supporting device comprising a base, a bracket member having vertical grooves in the sides thereof, laterally extending horizontally disposed wings each including outwardly divergent front and rear limbs and a corrugated portion connecting the outer ends of said limbs, said limbs being provided at their inner ends with upwardly extending arms, and means for fastening the bracket on the base, the arms of the rear limbs between the base and the rear portion of the bracket and the arms of the front limbs adjacent to the front face of the bracket.

2. In a device of the class described, a base, a bracket including front and rear members and a plurality of spacing members, supporting wings each comprising outwardly divergent front and rear members and a corrugated portion connecting the outer ends of said front and rear members, said front and rear limbs being provided with upturned arms at their inner ends, and means for securing the bracket on the base, the arms of the rear limbs between the rear member of the bracket and the base and the arms of the front limbs adjacent to the front member of the bracket.
