REMOVABLE WATERPROOF LINING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 31, rate.
Application filed February 3, 1913. Serial No. 745,990.
To all 'w/wm 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. I-IoLMEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Removable Waterproof Lining, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to waterproof lining for garments and has for its particular object the provision of a waterproof interlining which may be readily positioned for use and easily removed when not needed. When in position the lining is adapted to protect the back and shoulders, being inserted in the back of an overshirt or top coat.
This invention is articularly adapted for use in a double back woolen shirt and it is the latter that is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 illustrates in dot-ted outline a figure embodying this invention, the lining being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a shirt, embodying this invention as shown in dotted lines, and Fig. 3 illus trates the two parts which comprise the waterproof lining, the larger of which is removable. Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical central section through Fig. 2.
The shirt a, of the type illustrated is usually provided with a cape 6, extending part way down the back. It is between said cape b, and the main body of the shirt a, that my waterproof lining is inserted. The latter comprises two parts, 0 and 0?. The upper portion 0 of the Waterproof fabric is permanently fixed across the shoulders of the garment a portion being cut away as at e, to fit closely around the collar. When in use, the lower portion (Z, is positioned with its upper edge beneath the lower edge of the upper portion 0, and the two are fastened together by metal snaps or buttons as at f f. The buttons 9 g are provided at either side of the bottom edge of the lower portion cl, to fasten the latter to the garment a and when so positioned, the water is shed from the upper portion 0 on to the lower portion d. The lower, or main portion (Z of the garment is readily removed by unfastening the buttons or snaps f and 9, thus rendering the garment lighter and cooler to the body.
I claim:
The combination with a shirt, of a waterproof strip permanently secured to the shirt across the shoulders thereof by permanently fastening one edge thereof in the shoulder and neck seams of the shirt, snap sockets secured along the lower free edge of said strip, an apron suspended from said strip down the back of the shirt, the free edge of the strip overlying the upper edge of the apron, and button shanks secured to the upper edge of the apron constructed to detachably engage the sockets on the strip, whereby said apron is detachably secured to and suspended from said strip.
HENRY C. HOLMES.
