IMPROVEMENI IN GARMENT-HOLDERS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom fit-moy concern Beit known that I, BENJAMIN VAX GAMPEX TAY- LOR, of Newark, in` the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and improved Garment-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part ot this specification, in which drawing- Figure 1 represents a sectional front eleva-tion ot' this invention.

This invention 4relates to a handle, which by preference is made. in two parts, connected by a screw or otherwise, and which is provided at its ends with loops to receive straps provided with a buckle or other fastening dcvice, in such a manner that a coat, shawl, or other garment can be readily and conveniently strapped to the handle and carried without encumbering the arm.

The letter A designates a handle, made of wood or other suitable material, in any suitable form or shape, and by preference constructed'in two or more parts, which are connected together by a screw a, or by any suitable catch or fastening, so that the handle can be shortened when it is to be carried in the pocket, and elongated when it is to be used. It' desired, the handle maybe construct-ed of telescope-tubes capable of sliding in and out, and provided with set-screws, so that it can be adjusted to the required length.

, To each end ot' the handle A is secured a loop, Il, either by means ot' a cap, c, as shown, or by any other suitable means, and in .each of these loops is secured astrap, d, ofconvenient length. If desired, said straps canbe' connected to theloops-b by means of snaphooks, so that they can beattachcd or removed at pleasure. A

One ot these straps, in this4 example, is provided at its end with a buckle, e, so that the same can be secured to the end of the other strap at any desired point to accommodate thc length of' the connected straps to the article to be carried.

After the several parts of the handle have been connected, the-coat, shawl, or other article is folded up and secured to the handle by means of thestraps tl, as shown in fig.2; and by taking hold ot' the handle the coat, shawl, or other article can be carried with convenience and without coming in contact-withfthe arm or any other part of the body,thercby relieving the person carrying such coat, shawl, or other article from the inconvenience duc to the" l1cat produced by such article beingworn on the arm or over the shoulder in the manner commonly practiced.V

By means of my bolder I am enabled to carry a bundle of comparatively large weight with ease and convenience.

If desired, one or more additional straps may be made to pass transversely through slots in the handle, for the purpose of securing the article or articles to be carried in a convenient bundle.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 1. A handle, A, provided at its ends with the linked rings b b toreceive strap d, substantiallyl as shown and described.

2.: The handle A, madein two or more parts united by the male and female screws a-,or equivalent fastening, and provided at its ends with the links b b, to receive straps, substantially as set forth.
