To all 4071 cm it on concern Be it known that I, Pn'rnn L. HormmN, citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Door-l3umpers, of which. the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stops or bumpcrs for sliding doors and the object of the improvements hereinafter set forth is to provide a bumper of especially cheap construction which will be strong and can be easily and securely attached to the building, car or other structure on which it may be used.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated my improved door bumper in the following views Figure 1 shows in elevation a portion of a sliding door and the structure on which it is erected the relative position of the bumper being indicated; Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail of the bumper, the adjacent portions of the door and building being shown in cross-section, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the bumper alone, showing the manner in which it is attached.
Referring to the details of the drawing, A represents the side of a building or car and B the door slidingly mounted on suitable tracks by hangers engaging same.
My improved bumper is made up of two pieces of strap metal, cut in suitable lengths, assembled and connected in the manner to be described. The base member, represented by the reference character 4, is adapted, for a substantial portion of its length, to lie flat against the structure A to which it is socured, by stud bolts 7, 8. which pass through suitable holes 4P, 4. The member 4 is bent at right'angles to provide the shoulder 4, which is the portion against which the edge of the door abuts. It is again bent at right angles to provide the face 4 which is parallel with the base portion of the member, and is then inclined outwardly as at P, and its end por tion rebcnt as at L to provide a hook-shaped terminal which is perforated to receive the rivet 6. On the rivet 6 is pivotally mounted the brace member of the bumper, the flat portion 5 of which is provided with a hole 5 to receive the attaching bolt 8. This member is bent outwardly from the flat portlon, as at 5, and is given the further bonds 5, 5, to make it conform to the adjacent. portions of the member 4, and the rivet 6, passes through a suitable hole in its forward end which is loosely arranged in the hook-portion oi the member 4-, so that it- 'lrccly swings on said pivot until the bolt 8 is inserted, thus permitting access to the bolt 7, for insertion or removal.
It will be obvious that a very strong bumper results from the construction described as the thrust is directed against the bolts 7, S. It will also be apparent that the flaring forward end. serves to guide a loosely hung door when pushed baclcagainst the shoulder 4t. Of course, ordinary screws may be used in lieu of the bolts shown, and in such case, the provision of the swinging brace is essential to the insertion of the screw corresponding to the bolt 7, unless the brace was a separate member, but owing to parts becoming lost, separate pieces are objcctionable.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- tors Patent, is
1. A door-bumper comprising a base member adapted to be secured to its supporting structure and having an angular shoulder, and a brace member pivotally connected with one end of the base member and detachably connected with the other end, said brace member adapted to overlie the base member when in operative position.
2. A door-bumpcr comprisingabascmcmbcr adapted to be secured to its supporting structure and having an angular shoulder and an outwardly flaring forward end, and a brace member pivotally connected with the forward end of the base member and adapted to overlie the base member when in operative posit-ion.
3. A door-bumper comprising a base member adapted to be secured to its supporting structure and bent to provide an angular shoulder, an outwardly flaring portion and a hook-shaped forward end, and a brace member pivotally connected to the hookend of the base member, and adapted to overlie and be detachably connected at its rear end with said base member.
