The invention consiste in the features ot novelty hereinafter set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed outl in the appended elairn.

As shown` the improved entf protector or hook is adapted to he secured to the inner` itace of the coat sleeve l near the end thereof with the hook portion 2 facing' inwardly, so that it may be readily engaged with the outer edge of the cutl" 8, as Shown in Fig. 2, to uphold the latter' within the coat sleeve. To prevent the accidental engagement ot the hook with the cuil or shirt sleeve, the shank o-t the hook ie provided in front o't the inouth oil' the hook portion 2 with an outwardly proiectine` guard lue` 1t. The height of this )Viroiecting guard lueV is equal to or a little greater than the width of the mouth of the hook, so that it effectively prevents the aceidental engagement; oit the hook with the cuit' or shirt: sleeve. The Yguard lug is, however, arranged on the shank of the hook above or a slie'ht distance away from the inouth oi 'the hook, and the space between the guard lug; and mouth oit' the hook is such that the wearer inay readily place the outer edge ot the cuitl into engagement with the hook or disengage the saine therefrom. Vhen the cuit is placed in engagementwith the hook by the wearer it will he etl'ectively upheld within the coat sleeve and will not become soiled when the wearer is washing: hisI hands or the like.

A fastening pin (5 is 1iivotally connected to the extreme end oft the shank and is arranged to engage a catch 7 on the hack oi the shank.

At this point it is provided with a spring coil 12 of one or two turns and with a :tasl tener pin 13. The :fastener pin is adapted to he forced over the projection l() and shank 9 aitter it has heen passed through the cloth body of the coat sleeve to securely hold the device in place. The laterally projecting lugs l() and 11 will rest upon the inner face of the coat sleeve and will hold the hook portion in position to he readily engaged with the cuit. The :foi-1n shown in Fig. 5 is also made of a continuous length ot wire bent to proper forni. The hook 2 and the shank lelare termed ot a doubled hentI portion oit the wire, so that each has separate side portions. The end ci one ot the side portions of the shank is heut laterally to form an eye 15. The other side portion is bent laterally to torna an eye 1G and then upwardly and downwardly at an incline to form the guard lug 4L. Its extreme end is provided with an eye 17. By means of the eyes 15, 16 and 17, the device may he readily sewed in place upon the inner face of the sleeve.

lt is obvious that changes may be inade` without departure from the essentials of the invention as dened in the claim. By its use the user, when washing his hands or when momentarily engaged in work which might soil his cuffs, may readily protect them by placing the outer edges thereof into engagement with the hook devices secured to the inner faces et his coat sleeves adjacent their ends. The guard lugs eiectively prevent any accident-al catching of the hooks with the cus or shirt sleeves.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A cuff protector comprising a hook havadapted to engage the inner surface of the Y coat sleeve to hold the hook substantially at right angles to said surface, said hook having an outwardly inclined bill, and said shank having an outwardly projecting, rigid guard lug arranged in front of and in line with the bill of said hook and extending at a greater height than said hill to prevent the accidental engagement of the hook with the cuE, said guard lug being spaced lengthwise of the hook away from the end of the bill to permit the intentional engagement of the cuff with the hook, substantially as describedt EDVJIN S.
