Description

Patented Feb. 24, 1914.
FRANK P. WALTON, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DISPLAY APPARATUS.
nosacao.
Application filed March 18, 1911.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2%,1914.
Serial no. 615,354.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK I. \VALTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in display apparatus, and the object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this type in which the merchandise carrying or supporting rods are reliably secured and are still capable of removal with ease and facility.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple, and economical structure, which may be formed of sheet metal, and tubular material.
Further and other objects will later appear.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing the same in use, Fig. 2 is a detail view in side elevation and section of a fragment of one of the supporting racks, Fig. 3 is a section on the line 8 3 of Fig. 1, Fig. 1 is a detail perspective fragmentary view of a modified form of the invention, Fig. 5 is a view partly in section of the modified form illustrated in Fig. 4-, and Fig. 6 is a detail fragmentary view of a still further modifie form of the invention.
The invention comprehends a main supporting structure or stand which is, as illustrated, preferably formed of bars, or tubes, and includes pairs of spaced vertical members 1, connected by cross bars or tubes 2, and longitudinal side bars or tubes 3, which latter are connecte to the vertical bars or tubes 1. One or more racks are supported from the longitudinal side bars 3, each rack being composed of two side bars 4:, preferably formed of angle-iron as shown, and having at each end and the center thereof integral extensions of strip form which are bent to form the hooks 5, which engage over the side bars 3, and thus constitute means for supporting the racks from the main stand. Cross bars 6, connect the ends and central portions of the angle-bars 4:, and complete the rack formation. The vertical sides 6 of the angle-bars 4c, are formed at their top edges with a series of spaced notches or concave seats 7, for the reception of the rods 8, on which the merchandise 9 is moved in draped, or hung. By reference to Fig. 3, it will be obvious that the ends of the rods 8, abut the longitudinal bars 3 of the supporting stand and are thus held against lateral movement with respect to the stand.
In the modification shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the angle bars 4; have their vertical sides 6 straight, the merchandise carrying rods 8', being formed with notches 10, of a size to receive the vertical sides 6, as depicted in Fig. 5.
In Fig. 6 a still further modification is illustrated in which the angle bar a, receives the end of the merchandise carrying rod 8 on its bottom face, and the end of the rod abuts the vertical side 6 of the bar.
It will be seen that the device is especial y adapted for the display of rugs, curtains, and the like, though obviously the rods 8 can be utilized to support any article which is to be displayed. It will furthermore be apparent that the rack structures can be easily applied to and removed from the supporting stand and that the rods 8 can similarly be easily removed and replaced with respect to the rack structure.
By use of the modification the merchandisc carrying rods can be adjusted along the lengths of the racks and thus can be close relation so that a large number of rods can be used in connection with each rack. The form in Fig. 1 however, is possessed of the advantage of holding the rods against longitudinal movement with resoect to the racks.
hat I claim is:
1. In a display apparatus, a stand including spaced parallel bars, a rack composed of angle bar sides and connecting portions between said sides, said sides having extensions shaped to form hooks which engage over said bars of the supporting stand, the vertical sides of said angle bars being formed with spaced concave seats, and merchandise carrying rods arranged in said seats and having their ends abutting said bars of the stan( to hold said rods against lateral movement with respect to the stand.
2. In a display apparatus, a supporting stand including spaced parallel bars, a rack composed of a substantially open horizontally disposed frame, hook-like parts car ried by the rack for removable engagement with said bars of the stand, the top edges of avln thelr ends arran ed in said seats In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscrlblng W11:-
nesses.
