RAZOR.
Specification, of Letters Patent. Patented F b. 24 1914 Application filed May 15, 1912. Serial No. 697,402.
* in razors, particularly to the type known in trade as the Durham.
The main object of the present invention is the production of an improved razor of the above type in which a blade is directly heldin=c mtact with a support by simple means carried by the support and engaging the blade itself, said means being also capable of preventing accidental displacement of the blade.
Another object is to lessen the costof lnainifacturing,so that an efficient razor can be made and sold at a lower price than has heretofore been possible.
'a blade supporting member This blade supporting member is in the form of a double guard, but it 1s to be understood that,
With these and other objects not specifically mentioned in view, the invention consists in' certain constructions and combinations which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
1n the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate the same or like parts, Figure l is a general view of a device constructed in accordance with the invention, Fi 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view takenon the line 33 in Fig. 1. I
In carrying the invention into effect, there is provideda handle 1 to which is pivoted a shank 2 extending from what may be termed in certain constructions, the support need not ,be a guard. There Is further provided a blade 4 ofsubstantial thickness and rigid- .ity; and means are provided for holding the blade uaon the support. In the device llustrate the invention, this holding means consists of a pair of lugs 5, each offset from t-he'main body of the support 3.
The operating faces of these lugs, lie in a,
plane substantially parallel with the surface of'the supporting. member 3, and each is provided. wlth a-projection 6 adapted to engage an indentation 7 formed upon tlie'fa ce of a ledge 8, which ledge iscountersunk fromcne face of the blade adjacent a per-' foration 9 extending through the blade. To attach the blade to the support, the lugs 5 are first passed through the p'erforationfl,
and then slid longitudinally along the ledges 8 until the projections 6 snap into the indentatlon 7. Detachment of the blade from. the support is of course effected by a reverse operation. It will be noted that the lugs 5 lie between the outer surfaces or noncontactin'g sides of the support 3 and. the blade 4. a
\Vhile, in certain constructions, the cutting edges of the blade may be centrally located with respect to the flat faces of the blade; as shown, each of the cutting edges is formed by a shortbevel 10 and a long bevel 11, the short bevel 10 being on the side w next the guard, and the long bevel 11 being on thesameside as the countersunk ledges.
As shown, the perforations 9 are unsyrn metrically arranged with respect to the ends of the blade. This is to prevent assembling of the blade and support with the long bevels 11 next the support. When the blade is ground to bring the cutting edges thereof in a plane midwaybet-ween the sides of the blade, the perforations need not be so arranged.
Changes and variations may be made in the structure by means of which the invention is carried into effect. This invention therefore is not to be restricted to the precise details of the-structure shown and described.
What is claimed:
1. In a razor, the combination with a blade having a pair of slots each slot having a countersunk ledge adjacent said slot, of a handle, and ashank pivoted to the handle and provided with an integral guard having a pair of integral lugs offset from of a handle, and a shank pivoted to the name t9 this specification in the presence of imndle and pr0vifded withlail integal gFard twe subscribing witnesses. 1; yin a, air 0 integra ugs 0 set rom qa d gglgrd and adapted to pass through the THOMAS SHEEHAN' ,s'lotsa-n'd engage the ledges of the blade to Witnesses: hold the blade and guard together. FRANK H. D1011, J12, In testimony whereof, I have signed my SYDNEY J. PRESCOTT.
