UNTTED STATES PATENT carica.`
FRA-NK H. WEI'IZ, OF DURYEA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOBBIN-HOLDER EJECTOR. v
Patented Feb. 17, 1914.
To all @07mm it may concern citizen of the United States, residing at Duryea, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented 'certain new and useful Improvements in Bobbin-Holder Ejectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,l and exact description of the invention, such aswvill enable others .skilled in the art to Which it apper- This invention relates to a manually operable device for automatically releasing and ejecting the bobbin holder and bobbin from a rotary sewing machine.
The object of the.invent.ion is the provision of a device of this charact'erwhich is quickly and conveniently operable and posi- 'tive in the performance of its functions.
Another object is the provision of a releasing and ejecti-ng ldevice of simple construction and few parts which may be applied to the ordinary constructioniof rotary 'sewing machine with but slightvariation in the construction of the parts thereof.
ln-tlfe accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a fragmentary View, partly in section, through the base of a rotary sewing machine showing my improvement applied thereto.` Fig. 2 represents a fragmentary side elevation, and, Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal sectional vievv through' the main shaft of the machine, the bobbin holder and bobbin.
' Referring to the drawings, wherein similar referencel characters designate corre'- sponding parts, throughout the severaly views, 5 indicates the main shaft supported below the base 6, over which are mounted the .usual adjuncts of the ordinary rotarysewing machine.v The shaftr is preferably formed in two parts, the part carrying vthe crank 7 beingthreaded at the inner end and vhaving a Aflange 8 at the inner end of the .threaded portion. The inner portion of the other art ofthe shaft is enlarged at 9 and threa ed at the inner end to receive the threads ofthe first part. The second part is provided with a longitudinal bore 10 extending in alinement with the bore of the sleeve 10a integral with therotary hook or shuttle l1, and said bore 10 is enlarged at 11 at the inner end, and the Wall of the enlarged portion of the'fbore is slotted at 12. A plunger 1 3 is positioned in the bores 10 and 1l, and
l the end 13a thereof is headed to provide an Be it known that. l, FRANK H. l/Vnirz, af
abutment for a spring`14, the normal tendency of which is to Withdraw the'plunger 13. A channeled collar 15 is slidably mounted over the enlarged portion of the shaft and carries a pin 16 which is secured at its inner end through the head 13*L and is adapted to work longitudinally through the slot 12. A shifting rod 17 is slidable longitudinally'through the depending ilanges'lS, ordinarily formed integrally with the base 6, which latter is'in this instance provided with a slot 19 through which projects the operating lever or handle 2() fixed to the shifting rod 17. VOneend of an arm 21 is split and suitably fixed over the `shifting rod 17, and yqlfed wat the opposite end to be loosely received Within the channel of the collar 15. One end of the shifting rod 17 is beveled on its under surface to provide a cam face 22. A bobbin holder release lever 23 is pivorted at 24 to the base 6 or part of the frame and 1s provided with a depending lug 25, at one end, which is normally held against the bobbinholder for securing the latter in position by aspring 26. The opposite end of the lever 23 is engaged against the beveledface 22 of the shifting ro ,The parts. herein described which comprise the bobbin holder ejector do not interfere with the usual operation of the sewing machine, and the shifting rod 17 and plun-4 ger 13 are normally held retracted by the tension of the spring 14, as will be under stood.
To operate the parts to release and eject the bobbin holder, the handle or lever is shifted by the operator, moving the shifting rod 17 longitudinally, causing the? release lever -23 to be rocked suiciently to disengage the lug 25 from the bobbin holder.A Simuly taneously, the movement of the rod 17 is imdium of the arm 21 and collar 15.. As the plunger moves outwardly through the bore4 of the sleeve 10, it engages the end of the stem 27 securedl in the usnal Way to the holder 28 and ejects the latter together with thebobbin 29 removably secured therein.
To replace the bobbinand holder in position within the hook, the free end of the bobbin release lever 23, which is preferably curved outwardlyto provide a silitable grip, is partially lifted andthe parts placed in position, after 'which the lever is Released 11 omprising a b'fobbi "leiter` to release the" bobbin jl1`older,i VVand. :an
