Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led March 20, 1913. Serial No. 755,744.
To all whom 'it may concern:
the production of a discharge spout which is circumferential flange, the face thereof loe-v ing engaged bythe closure-plunger for presoy provided at its lower end with a ,crimped portion constituting an inwardly extending venting dampness from entering into the interior of the casing.v
- A still further object of the invention is the production of a vspring housing which is adapted to contain the spring that engages 4the plunger, whereby the powder will be prevented from packing around the spring and rendering the same less eicient- With these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is' a vertical section ofthe shaving brush. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the casing.
Fig. 3 is 'a vertical section of the bristle containing body. Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig.l2looking in direction of the arrow. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the closure-plunger head. Fig. 6 is a vertical section of a modied form of a plunger head.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, it will be seen that the device comprises a hollow cylindrical casing 1 having at its lower portion the threads 2. This casing 1 is provided at its upper end with a cover 3 which is formed integrally therewith, this cover being provided with a collar 4, the collar 4 being provided with a depending flange 6 having a depending hollow housing 5,l the lower end ofthe housing 5 being provided with a bottom 7'in which there is formed an aperture 8.
The bristle containing-body vis Iprovided with a pocket portion 9 which is crowded lin upon the bristles 10 from the position illustrated in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 3. This.
Patented Feb'. 1o, 1914.'-
A plunger vrod 16 is passed through the housing 5 and the aperture 8, this plunger. rod 16 being provided at its lower end wlth- -the enlarged head 17 which is ada ted `toslide within the discharge spout 14 a d ,restupon theiiange 15 for forming a' tight closure. By referring to the drawing it will be seen that the head 17 'engages the inner face of the crimpedportion of the spout forming the flange, the crimped' portion or ange constituting a capV Istructure lfor the outer end of the plunger head, and in this manner prevent any moisture from entering into the.
is desired to force the powder from the im -terior of the casing 1.
The plunger head, disclosed in Fig.4 6, is
used in combination with thev above de .no j
CIR
scribed brush andis adapted tc work withm the discharge spout 14. This plunger head `is provided with a body portion 23 which engages the lower portion el, the plunger-rod 16 and is provided at its llower por-4 tion with the. flaredportion 24 which is adapted to engage the side portions of the discharge spout 14 .for scraping tlv-e powder therefrom and Jforcing it from the interior of the spout. 4 I
When thisdevice is used, thehristle containin Amember may be removed at which.
time t e powder-may be placed withinthe casing 1,. The bristle containing .member is then l threaded into engagement-with the casing 1 at which time the head' 17 will .rest upon the inner :face of the dange 15.
The brush will then assumetheposition, as
charge spout'14 and drive the powder contained therein from the spout. The head 17 nally rests upon the circumferential ange ing.
y15d-and in this manner forms a tight closure for the discharge spout. The bristles may then he wetv without danger of the moisture passing around the lower portion of the discharge spout and entering the casing, as
the force of the spring 19 will hold-the head lirmly in engagement with the inner face of the circumferential ange 15.
From. the lforegoing description, it will 'be seen that a simple and eilicient shaving brush has been produced which willforce a quantity of powder upon the bristles and which is -provided with a Hange portion which will prevent any moisture from entering into the interior 'of the casing, and 'in this manner will keep thepowder contained within the .casing in a suitable condition for easilydischarging the same.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A shaving brush comprising va casing, said casing' providedY at its lower portion with a discharge spout, said casing also provided with bristles positioned about said discharge spout, said discharge spout provided at its lower portion with aninwardly extending flange, and a closure-plunger po- -sitioned within said casing and being adapted to engage the inner face of said Hangs, thereby closing said spout, whereby moist- Vu re'willbe prevented from entering the cas- 2. A" shavingbrush comprising a casing,
a bristle-containing member carried by the i noeaoeo lower portion of said casing, said containingmember provided with a pocket-portion, bristles carried by said pocket-portion, a
rib formed upon said pocket-portion anda Y plurality of threads formed adjacent to4 said rib, said rib limiting the inward movementof the bristle-containing-member upon Said casing, aA bowl-portiori formed integral v with said threads, a depending dischargespout formed upon said bowl-portion and depending beyond. the lower portion of said pocket-portion, said discharge-spout provided at its lower portion with an inwardly extending flange, and a closure-plunger `1n lsaid casin and adapted to engage the inner face of said flange for .tightly closing said discharge-spout, whereby moisture will be prevented from entering said casing.
3. A shaving` brush comprising a casing, a discharge spout carried bythe lower portion of said casing, said casing provided with an integral depending housing upon its inner portion, a plunger rod slidably mounted within said casing and passing through said housing, saidA plunger rod provided' with a head-adapted to close said discharge spout, said plunger rod. provided with a collar, a spring positioned within said housing and bearing upon said collar for holding said head in a closed position, .a cap engaging the upper portion of said housing for holding said spring within said housing,- Ineans for raising said plunger head, and said housing constituting a means for preventing powder from becoming calred about said springend rendering the same lessy fefcient.
4. A lshaving brush of the class described comprising a casing, said casing provided with an opening at its lower end, an integral sheet metal cover lon the upper end of lsaid casing, said cover 'provided with an integrally formed downwardly extending ange upon its lower side' forming a housing, a plunger carried within sald casing and adapted to close lsaid opening, a spring on said plunger, within said housing, whereby the powder carried within said casing is prevented from packing around the spring renderingthe spring less eilectivefor holding the plunger in the closed position, and
a closure for said housing forming an abutment for said spring.
5. A receptacle provided with a discharge opening at one end, a head. at thel opposite end of said receptacle, a housing extending into said receptacle from said head, a plunger extending through said receptacle and through said housing, a head at .the inner end of said plunger, and resilient means in said housing engaging said plunger for normally holding theA head of said plunger in a position to close the discharge opening ofl said receptacle.
6. A receptacle, a discharge spout extendingfrom one end of said receptacle, a plun- `Walls of said dis *ger extendlng into said receptacle, and a hol'lowll'ead carried by the' inner end port'nofsad plunger and extending into said of said receptacle `which may adhere to the scraped o.
