SANDAL.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Lnwrs H. GILBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sandals, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to boots and slices, more particularly to sandals, and has for an object to provide a sandal adapted to be worn on t-he foot and which can beA cheaply and eiiciently constructed.

The invent-ion embodies, among other features, the formation of a sandal including a two-piece vamp and which can be readily adjusted on the foot of the` wearer.

The sandals now generally used consist of a one-piece vamp, that is to say, the vamp of the sandal is made of a single piece of mate rial. In order to construct a one-piece vamp it is necessary to waste considerable stock in order to properly form the vamp. To overcome this excessive waste of stock I construct my sandal to include a two-piece vamp, thus obviating the waste of stock as in a` one-piece vamp sandal, and whereby remnants of stock can be employed in forming the parts of the two-piece vamp.

The invention still further embodies a novel manner of adjusting-the sandal on the foot and whereby, when the sandal is placed upon the foot, it can be adjusted to conveniently and in a shapely manner inclose t-he foot of the wearer.

In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sandal; Fig. 2 is a plan View, the integral tip and strap being broken away to disclose the underlying structure; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the slide; and Fig. t is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 4 1 in Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the views, I disclose sandal 10 comprising a-sole 11 and a vamp 12, consisting of separate and independent similar vamp members 13 and 14, secured to the so-le 11, with the front edges 15 and 16 of the respective vamp members 13 and 14 covered by a tip 17 secured to the sole 11 and including an integral tie strap 18 extending upwardly and rearwardly on the sandal 10. cured to or formed with the vamp member 13 and adapted for connection with a buckle 20 supportedon the vamp member 14, a second securing strap 21, similar to t-he strap 19, being also formed with or4 secured to the vamp 13 and having connection with another buckle 22 on t-he vamp 14, the mentioned securing strap 21 being preferably arranged immediately in front of and in spaced relation to the securing strap 19.

Now it will be apparent that by providing the tip 17 on the sandal 10 in the manner mentioned, the said tip will cover the front edges 15 and 16 of the respective vamp members 13 and 14, as mentioned heretofore, and a tie strap, integral with the tip, will extend rearwardly beneath the securing strap 21 and the securing strap 19, the said tie strap, however, having no connection with the securing strap 21.

A slide 23 is provided for the purpose of insuring a connection between the tie strap 18 and the securing strap 19 and the said slide consists, more particularly, of an integral body 24 having a longitudinal passage 25 therein and through which the tie strap 18 extends as shown, a stirrup 26 being struck upwardly from the upper face of the body 24 to provide a transverse passage 27, through which the securing strap 19 extends, as shown.

Now when the sandal 10 is applied to the foot of the wearer, the tie strap 18 will lie beneath t-he securing strap 21 which is preferably secured to the buckle 22, and it will be seen that the tie strap 18 passes through the longitudinal passage 25 of the slide 23, while the securing strap 19 passes through the transverse passage 27 of the slide 23 so that when the securing strap 19 is connected to the buckle 29 the connection between the tie strap 18 and securing strap 19 will tend to hold the tie strap in posit-ion to prevent any slipping or displacement thereof, while at the same time the securing strap 19, when connected with the buckle 20, will aid in securing the sandal on the fo-ot.

From t-he foregoing description it will be apparent that the sandal disclosed includes an integral combined tip and t-ie strap, wherein the tip covers independent vamp members of a similar nature carried by the sole of the sandal and the tie strap having connection with the securing member carried by the sandal retains the tip in proper position with respect to the vamp members, the
