GEORGE A. W. RUSHWORTH, OF WITHINGTON, ENGLAND.
PRINTING-STAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 1914.
Application filed March 29, 1913. Serial No. 757,615.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ARTHUR WIL- LIAM RUsHwoRrH, a British subject, residing at Withington, county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Printing-Stamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to self-inking printing stamps in which the type bed is carried in a movable frame and held normally against the inking pad by a spring and turned over and away from the inking pad by the depression of the handle for the operation of printing, the inking pad being removable and replaceable to facilitate the re-inking of the type bed or toprint in different colors.
The invention consists in the details of arrangement for mounting the inking pad and retaining it in position.
The invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1. is a perspective view of the selfinking stamp showing the removable ink pad in position. Fig. 2. is a transverse section of same. Fig. 3. is a transverse section showing the ink pad separate from the stamp and ready for insertion therein. Fig. 4:- is a transverse section showing the ink padwithdrawn. Fig. 5. is a transverse section showing the ink pad in position for inking. Fig. 6. is -a longitudinal elevation of same.
The main features of the self-inking stamp comprising the stand A which carries the ink pad B, the reciprocating frame C which carries the type bed D, and the means for pivotally mounting the type bed are of the, ordinary construction.
In carrying out the invention instead of affixing the ink pad B to the stop of the stand A as is customary, I make the stand A with transverse slides or guides a at both ends, and I make the ink pad loose or removable therefrom, to rest upon the slides a and so that it can be readily slid into position in the stand between the top of the stand and the slides a, for the purpose of inking the stamp or type bed D, and can be readily withdrawn for the purpose of applying a fresh supply of ink thereto.
The soft ink pad B is mounted on a detached plate, frame or tray 6 to slide into position along the grooves formed by the guides a, and is prevented sliding back by a turn button a or other catch. The plate Z) is provided adjacent its inner or rear corners with pins or trunnions Z) and the guides at are turned over or formed with hooks or stops at at their front extremities to prevent the complete detachment of the ink pad B at one side of the stamp when withdrawn, and to enable it to be swung upwardly at such side, upon its trunnions as pivots, into the position shown in Fig. 5 to receive a fresh supply of ink.
The ink pad B is so arranged that it may be completely withdrawn and detached at the side of the stand A opposite to the stops (4, so that the pad may be interchangeable for different colors.
The ink pad B may be made for a single color ink or it may be divided either longi tudinally or transversely by one or more strips or bars of metal, rubber or other suitable material into separate compartments into which the absorbent material is fitted to present two or more colors for inking the stamp.
The invention is designed either for hand stamps or to be applied to similar stamps when used in conjunction with copying and duplicating machines for the purpose of duplicating in two or more colors.
What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is In a printing stamp, the combination, with a stand, a reciprocatory frame mounted therein, and a type bed carried by said frame; of a pair of horizontal guides secured within said stand at the top thereof and having their front ends bent upwardly to form stops; and an inking pad slidably mounted upon said guides and provided adjacent its rear corners with trunnions arranged to travel along said guides and into engagement with said stops during the outward movement of the pad, to limit such movement, said pad being designed to be swung upwardly into vertical position upon said trunnions as pivots when the trunnions are so engaged.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEO. A. w. RUSHWORTH.
