Description

F. P. TREAGY.
LAP ROBB FASTENER.
APPLIoATIoN I'ILED Mus, 1909.
Patented J an. 27, 1914.
FRNK E TREACY FRANK P. TREACY, OF DE SMET, SOUTH DAKOTA.
LAP-ROBE FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK P. TREAGY, a citizen of the United States, residing at De Smet, in the county of Kingsbury, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lap-Kobe Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to lap robe fasteners and its principai object is to improve the general construction of devices of this character.
`With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general of a pair of hinged members of novel form pressed together by means of a suitable spring.
The invention further consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically set forth in the claim.
.In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a view of a portion of the seat of a carriage showing the application of this invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevat-ion of the invention removed from the dash board. Fig. 8 is a similar front elevation thereof.
The invention consists in opposed members 10 and 11 the former of which is provided at one end with a projecting lug 12 while the member 11 has a forked end 13. Through the lugl 12 and the forked end 18 passes a suitable pivot pin 11. The free end of the member 10 is roughened as at 15 near its extremity and the extreme end is provided with a projecting lug 16 having a roughened beveled inner face 17. The member 11 is also provided With an inwardly projecting lug 18 having a rounded face 19 arranged to coact with the beveled face 17 of the member 10. The member 11 has a further projection 20 at its extreme end. The inner face of the lug 18 is roughened as indicated at 21 to coact with the roughened face 15 of the member 10.
A bolt 22 passes through the members 10 and 11 the latter being freely movable there- Specficaton of Letters Patent.

on. The bolt 22 is provided with a collar 23 and nut and between the collar 23 and the member 11 is a compression Spring 25 which normally serves to hold the members 10 and 11 pressed together. In Fig. 2 there is shown at 26 a portion of a lap robe engaged by this holder.
From an inspection of Fig. 2 it will be observed that the hemmed edge lies behind the lug 18, the adjacent edge extending between the roughened surfaces 21 of the lug 18 and 15 of the member 10 and from there extends around the lug 16 being securely clamped between the rounded surface 19 of the lug 18 and the roughened surface 17 of the lug 16. From there the lap robe extends out between the face of the lug 10 and the projection 20. By reason of this construction the lap robe is caused to fold around the lug 18 in such manner that it is practically impossible to detach the same without pulling the members 11 and 10 apart. From an inspection of Fig. 1 the manner of applying the device to a dash board will be apparent and for this purpose the member 10 is provided with spaced countersunk holes 27 wherethrough pass suitable securing bolts.
There has thus been provided a simple and efiicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new, is
lap robe fastener comprising a pair of jaws pivotally connected at their lower extremities, one of the jaws being adapted to be fiXed to the side of a wagon seat, a lug provided at the upper extremity of the fixed jaw and a lug provided adjacent the upper extremity of the inner face ,of the movable jaw and below the first-mentioned lug, said movablc jaw extencling past the upper end of the fixed jaw, said last-mentioned lugI serving to space the body of the tending to keep the jaws in clamping removable jaW away from the fixed jaW, the lation. 10 jaws being provided Inedially With alining In testimony Whereof, I affix Iny signabores, a boit positioned in these bores and ture in presence of two Witnesses.
having one end extending exteriorly of the FRANK P. TBEACY. movable jaw, a head on said end, and a coil `Wtnesses:
Spring dsposed between the outer Surface B. M. EGGLESTON,
of the lnovable jaW and the head, said Spring M. L. MEIER.
