Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 20,1914.
I Application filed May 19, 1913. Serial No. 768,600.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josm W. Bonus, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at University, in the county of Albemarle and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Telephone-- Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This inventionrelates to improvements in stands or rests for telephone receivers.
In carrying out the resent invention it is my 'purpose to provi e a rest or stand for telephone receivers by means of which the receiver may be supported in proximity to the ear so that the hands of the person using the telephone will be free for making memoranda and other purposes.
It is also my purpose to provide a telephone receiver holder which will embrace the desired features of simplicity, efliciency, durability and convenience and which may be manufactured and installed with a minimum expense.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a telephone receiver rest constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fi 2 is a similar view of a modified form 0 holder or rest, and Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of a further modified construction adapted for ,use on wall phones.
Referrin now to the accompanying drawing in detail and particularly to the form of my invention illustrated in Fig. 1, the numeral 1 designates the base of the rest or holder, such base being constructed of some suitable material and preferably Weighted or loaded." Upstanding from the base 1' and appropriately fastened thereto is a standard 2. Swiveled to the upper end of the standard 2 is a substantially -U-shaped yoke 3 having the free extremities of the limbs thereof provided with alining forks 4, 4 adapted to receive the receiver of .the telephone. The U-shaped yoke 3 is preferably reinforced through the medium of a brace bar 5 extending from one limb to the other.
In Fig. 2, I have disclosed an adjustable rest or holder wherein the shank 2 is composed of two. sections 6, 6, one of such'sections carrying a screw 7 disposed within a slot therein and rotatable about a vertical pin and meshing with threads 8 on the adjacent face of the other section, a band or the like encircling the sections to hold the same against displacement. By meansv of this construction, it will be seen that when the screw 7 is rotated, the upper section 6 of the standard will be elevated or lowered according to.
the direction of rotation of the screw.
In the modified construction illustrated in Fig. 3, I employ a shank or stem 10 to the upper end' of which is secured an outwardly projecting arm 11 and to the outer end of the arm I pivotally connect one end of a standard 12, the upper end of the latter having the yoke-3 swiveled thereon. This form of my invention is adapted for use with wall telephones and the box .of such telephone is provided with vertically alining sockets 13 designed to slidably receive the shank or stem 10 and provided with set screws 14 whereby the shank may be held in any desiredadjusted position. By means of the pivotal connection between the standard 12 and the arm 11, thereceiver may be swung to any desired angle, as "is obvious.
From" the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of employing my invention will be readily apparent. It will be seen that Ihave provided a rest or stand for telephone receivers whereby the receiver may be readily and conveniently supported in proximity to the ear of the person using the phone, while such receiver may be swung or adjusted to any convenientangle.
I claim:
A tele hone receiver stand comprising a base, a s ank uprising from the base and embodying two sections, one of such sections being formed with a slot, a screw rotatable within seii slot about a vertical axis, threads formed on the adjacent face oi the other section and meshing With said screw, it bend encircling seid sections to hoiti the same against dispieoement, e U-sheped yoke swiveled to the upper end of said standard. and formed with alining forks adapted. to receive the receiver of the telephone, one of I ine tee said forks being channeled. 'substentieiiy ea, mi for the purpose, set forth. 10 In testimony whereof efiit my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
