HANS HOLZHARTE, MilIaHEIM-GII*TIE-RUHR, GERMANY.
' I AIE'PARATUS FOR ACTUATING ANY GGVERNING PARTS OF GAS-TURBINES AND OTHER MOTIVE -l GWER DEVICES.
Epccificaticn of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 20, 1914.
Application filed lkofimbfir 30, 1912. Serial No. 739,865.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, Hess 'HomwAnru, a sub'ect of the German Emperor, residing at [iilheiunon-the-Ruhr, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certsin new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Actuatihg and Governing Parts of Gas Turbines and other l'slotivc-Povver Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention which is shown in. the accompanying drawing" has for its object a combination of hydraulic actuating gear and hydraulic governing gear for motive power devices. It. is inten. ed primarily for gas turbines, more particularly those of the type dealt with in Holzwarths book Die Gas Turbine. ildunich v 1911, The Turbine, London, 1912, which are chnrmrterized by a particularly simple compact and practicz'l construction When used with the above mentioned turbines, the combined arrangement has the double object of firstly operating succcssivcly the members which are to be con-- trolled, and secondly of varying or stopping and starting this operation in dependence on the governor.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is in axial section; and Fig. 2, a section on the line f r-B FM. Fig. 1 of a combined oil actuat r and governing arrangement ac cording b this invention. 1
It is here assumed that four valves are to be controlled by means of oil under pres sure, these valves belonging to our different explosion chambers of the some gas turbines.
A distributor b rotated by a shaft (1 and is in communication with a chamber Z by means of a central nozzle 0 which, iii desired, may be specially packed. The oil is forced into the chamber d by a pump or the like. ter Z: comes, during each revolution, successively into communication with chambers is disposed around it and connected by pipes or suitable passages Z Z Z Z with four chambers (of which only one, indicated by 37 shown in the drawing} containing the moving devices, for tence pistons, trolling the four valves to be situated. The arrangement may, for instance be such that each valve erred when the distributor supplies oil on r pressure te t-hechamber containing its ogoeretmg gustonx When com- 1\ arts or The outlet. passage 6 of the distribuand a (respective) chamber k has ceased, chamber is put into communication with the space m from which the oil returns to the pump or the like. The distributor I; however does not move directly past the works in a separate casing g which has ports or perforations f corresponding to the chambers k.
Between the outer surface of the casing g and the surface which faces it, that is to say ,the inner surface of the casing 0 containing the chambers la, a governingring h is insorted. This ring can be moved bymeans of the arm n by the governor or servomotor. This governing ring also has four ports 11 which are so'arranged that the ports of the separate chambers is and valves may be uncovered in succession by the movement of the governing ring it caused by the governor or servo-motor. The valves or the like may thus be brought into or out of action successively and to varying extents by means of the governor or servo-motor.
The movement of the governing ring may be of any suitable kind (axial displacement, rotation or the like). A rotary movement is preferable and is the one provided in the example of construction illustrated.
I declare that What I claim is:
