This invenzim'i relates to Sewing 11mchines, ond has for its object :in iznyiroved sewing machine, the 11min feature oi which is that the drums, crank disks: or other members; actuating (he iooper :nid ihe miie up move' uniformly und with the suine angular velocity, und the defects of previous e01r 'irnrlions7 in which stiloi'les :1re missed, are eliminated. This improved construction is specially'adapted ifor rapid Working' since the nni'nvoiadde seizing und Wearing conditions are avoided which oeenr in machines with n Veiooity inizio oiher hun 1 :L between 'the marin spindle :ind the iooper, while, at the smile time lhe iri'eigy'nhwiifieifr in the formation of the Stiiehes-end jerks Causing the threads to he torn ure priwented.
My invention provides an improved driv" ing means for the toire up, by which tho latter is positively held ai; rer-i,- dniiidg the instant at which the nniformiy rohding md ioop, herebyvv iooper engages the Chr eliminating che defects of oxistine' el'nin,i'iu tions, in which stiiehes nre missed by [nii-- ure of the point of the iooper to properly e11- gzlge the irregularly moving ripper ihz'ezld.

r 1f,- ijirerf ded the upward movement of the needle rod the roller 2G causes the rod 37 to yield to the lett so that this latter does not obstruct the movement of the needle rod. On the next downward motion of the needle rodthe roller 26 moves baclrthe rods 37, 38 into their lowermost position. On the furthe-r downward movement of the needle rod the short arm 29 of the take up follows the roller 26 until the roller 27 again engages the arm 31, when the actions just described are repeated. The looper is so adjusted on the shaft 17 that it engages in the thread loop at the instant the take up is at rest.
The automatic lubrication takes places as follows z-The bosses of the chain wheels 18 and 19 are made conical in such a manner that the Oil flows from the chain wheels in grooves 42 provided in the parts of the spindles 16 and 17 supported in the bearings 43 and 44. The spindles 16 and 1T are hollow and contain spirals 45 of wire or the like which conduct the oil flowing out of the grooves 42 through radial passages 46 pro vided in the spindles, through radial passages 47 to the bearings 48 and 49. The oil dripping from these bearings flows bach to the 'oil bath 21 through suitable tubes 50 and Loana/ii 51; the oil thus returned. by the tubes 50 and 51 to the oil bath 21 is distributed from said bath by the sprocket wheel 19 and chain 20, so that a perfectly automatic circulation of lubricating oil is obtained. To prevent oil trom being` thrown oHj at the bearings and 44 owing to iifentri'ugal force, cups 52 are attached to these latter, the edges of which cups project over the ends of the bosses of the chain wheels 18 and 19.
lfn a sewing` machina the combination oi? a take-up and loopcr, drive members thereA tor, and a shift-able stop independent of said drive members for positively holding said tale-up at rest upon engagement ci said looper with the threadand means actuated by said take-up drive member for shifting` said stop.
in testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
