Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES H. BIGBlE- be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to vehicles and more particularly to removable wagon tops and has for an object to provide a wagon top which may be readily secured upon or removed from a wagon body, the top being constructed so that the sides and ends may be readily disconnected and swung downwardly upon their hinges for purposes of loading the wagon or airing the contents thereof.
Another object is to provide a wagon top of this character which may be readily secured upon the ordinary wagon body and which is so formed that the triangular ends and the downwardly slanting sides thereof will have their edges engaged in such manner and overlapped by flanges that are carried by said ends and sides as to form water tight joints and connections between the parts.
Another object is to generally improve the construction and increase the efiiciency of removable wagon covers of this character.
WVith these and other objects in view, our invention will be more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and
then specifically pointed out in the claim which is attached to and forms a part of this application.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional form of wagonbody with our removable top secured in position thereon. Fig. 2 is an end View of the cover or top removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a vertical cross sectional view on the line 44: of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view. through the cover with the sides swung to their downward position. Fig. 6 is similar view through one end of the top or cover with the end section swung downwardly. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary hori- Zontal section on the line 77 of Fig. 2. Fig. 8 is a fragmentary detail view of one corner of one of the slanting sides, showing the flanges carried thereby for engagement over the upper edge of the opposite side and outwardly of one of the ends for producing water tight connections between the parts.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout, 10 designates the wagon body which is of conventional form and-upon which our improved removable cover is positioned.
Our improved cover consists of a frame 11 which is shown as being of rectangular form and of proper proportions to rest upon the wagon body 10. Secured to the inner and outer fac'esof the frame 11 are the spaced fingers 12 which extend to the upper edge of the frame and project below the lower edge of the frame, said fingers being secured vertically upon the sides and ends of the frame and the extended portions thereof being adapted for engagement against the inner and outer faces of the wagon body 10 to properly hold the cover in position and prevent the same from sliding off the wagon. body.
Secured at the upper end of the fingers 12 are the hinges 13. Thehinges 13 upon the fingers 12 at the ends of the frame 11 are also secured to the lower ends of the braces 14 carried upon the outer faces of the triangular end members 15 it being understood that the hinges are only secured to the fingers upon the outer face of the frame 11. It will also be understood that the braces 14 upon the ends 15 extend along the slantingsides of said end members 15 and vertically from the uppermost points of said end members to their lower edges. The lower edges of the end members 15 are beveled for proper engagement upon the correspondingly beveled upper edges of the ends properly positioned upon said ends of the frame and also to prevent the entrance of Water vb een the end membe s 15 a d the end of the frame 11' The ghinges {13 upon the upper ends of the fingers 12 carried by the sides of the frame 11 are secured to the slanting hin ged side members 16 along the lower edges thereof.
