To all whom may concern Bc it known that I, Hnzuknxn CARPENTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kremmling, in the county of Grand and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stovcpipc-I-lolde'rs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for holding stove pipes fitted within the wall openings of chimneys, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which is simple of construction and will positively prevent the pipe from pulling out of the flue opening and possibly causing a conflagration.

A further object of the invention is to provide a pipe holder which may be applied and removed in a ready and convenient manner, and which may be adjusted to hold the pipe firmly and securely in place.

The invention consists of the :features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section through a portion of a chimney and the end of a stove pipe fitted therein, showing the pipe held in position. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on the line 3MB of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail View of a screw bolt.

Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the inner wall of a chimney, and 2. an opening therein to receive the end of the stove pipe 3.

My improved holder comprises a pail of segmental or partially circular clamping members 4l and 5 adapted to fit within the pipe and conform to the internal contour thereof. To these clamping members are riveted or otherwise secured at one end retaining rods or arms 6 and 7 having hooked ends 8. These rods or arms are adapted to project out of the inner end of the pipe and engage the inner surface of the wall 1 to hold the pipe from displacement. A screw bolt 9 is provided to connect the two clamping members. This bolt is provided at one end with a head 10 swiveled to the clamping member l1, and has a threaded opposite end 11 passing through a threaded opening 12 in the other clamping member 5 and projecting externally from the pipe through an opening 13 formed therein. The free extremity of the threaded end of the bolt is squared as shown at 14:, so that a crank socket may be `applied thereto to rotate said bolt, whereby the holder may be expanded or contracted or the said clamping members 4r and 5 moved toward or from each other to engage or release the pipe. The projecting threaded end of the rod may, however, be adapted to be turned by hand or by means of a screw driver or other suitable tool.

By reference to the drawing, it will be seen that the clamping members are disposed within the pipe and the hooked arms project out of the pipe and engage with the inner surface of the wall 1. After the clamping members are inserted, the screw bolt is turned to force them apart, thereby causing them to clamp against the pipe, which will be held against any possibility of displacement by the hooked arms, by means of the frictional engagement of the clamping members with the pipe and the engagement of the threaded end of the screw bolt with the pipe, as will be readily understood. The bolt may be turned in a retrograde direction at any time to contract the holder or move the clamping members toward each other, so that the hooked arms may be disconnected and the pipe withdrawn.

It will be seen from the foregoing description that the invention provides a stove pipe holder which is simple of construction, and adapted to be readily and conveniently applied and removed and which will firmly hold the pipe against possibility of casual displacement, thus preventing all liability of a conflagration from the accidental disengagement of the pipe.
