To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLAUDE R. SGHUEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at (Jarterville, in the county of Williamson and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Overshoe Holder or Clamp; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

I-Ieretofore the great diiliculty has been in retaining an over-shoe on the shoe or boot, especially after the over-shoe has become distorted in shape, or when an overshoe has been purchased to fit one shoe, which will not fit a newly purchased shoe.

This invention, therefore, relates to a new and useful improved over-shoe holder, the object of which is to retain the over-shoe upon the shoe, whether the same be old or new or differently shaped.

A feature of the invention is the provision of a U-shaped metallic member adapted to be embedded between the plies of the upper portion of the heel of the overshoe by vulcanizing or otherwise, so as to cause the overshoe to grip the shoe just short shoe.

Another feature of the invention is the provision of an integral bead at the lower edge of the U-shaped metallic holder or clamp, which causes a bulge on the inner surface of the inner ply of the overshoe, which bulge engages the upper edge of the counter of the shoe, so as to prevent downward displacement of the overshoe. The bead not only causes a bulge, but owing to the roundness or circular-shape of the bead in cross section, the inner ply of the overshoe will be prevented from wearing out owing to its constant engagement with the upper edge of the counter of the shoe.

In practical fields the details of construction may necessite alterations, to which the patentee is entitled, provided the alterations fall within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed. In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a view in perspective of an overshoe, showing the holder partly in full lines and partly in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the over-shoe showing the same as applied to a shoe, showing the manner in which the holder engages the upper edge of the counter of the shoe. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the holder removed.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates a portion of a shoe, while 2 denotes an over-shoe, whereas 3 marks the holder or clamp, which is vulcanized between the inner and outer plies 4 and 5 of the over-shoe at the rear or heel portion of the same. This holder is constructed of a U-shaped piece of spring steel metal having curved ends 6, which are slightly bent outwardly, as shown. The lower edge portion of the holder or clamp is constructed with a head 8 substantially circular in cross section.

The holder or clamp is vulcanized or otherwise embedded between the inner and outer plies of the overshoe in such wise that the clam or holder will cause the overshoe to grip t e upper 9 of the shoe just short above the upper edge of the counter, so as to assist in holding the overshoe in place, while the bead 8 causes a bulge 8* in the inner ply of the overshoe, which bulge 8 engages the upper edge or shoulder 10 of the counter of the shoe, so as to prevent downward displacement of the overshoe.

By providing a holder eliminative of all sharp corners or edges, the cutting of the inner ply or outer ply is materially prevented, and owing to this simple, unique and practical structure, the present holder or clamp is materially worthy of distinction over similar devices of its kind.
