ABRAHMLINCOLN Honra-MAN, 0F ,EAST ARAINGE, NEW :Jlaslmcl BRUSH.
Application med neeemher 12.11a12- serial no. radeau,
To all 'whom #may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM LINCOLN a citizen of the United. States, and a resident of East Grange, in the county `of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Brush, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to brushes such as shown and described in the Letters Patent of the UnitedStates, No. 1,045,552, granted to me on November 26, 1912.
The object of the present invention isl toi provide a new and improved brush arranged tovpermit the user to conveniently and quickly replace a worn out bristle holder by a new one and to allow thorough at all times in sanitary condition.
In order'to accomplish the desired result head provided with a recess andwith a rabbet, the said head being also provided at the forward end with an .integral iange, a bristle-holding plate seated on the said rabbet and having its forward end seating on the said flange, the rear end of the' said plate terminating in a tongue and a ring held o-n the neck of the said head and adaptsame against the neck.A
Apract-ical embodimentoi' the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings orming a art of this specification, in
cate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a perspective lview of the brush in the form of a tooth brush; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same; Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section ot the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 isa perspective view of the lremovable bristle holder.
In my patent above referred to the bristle holder is inserted into an open loop from the top thereof, and a separate covering and locking plate is used to close the top of the loop and lock the bristleholder in place in the loop. In my present invention the cov-v ering and locking plate-is entirely dispensed with and the bristle-holding plaid carrying; the bristles or other brush stock forms the covering plateandis removably lockedin' i In`the tooth brush shown in the drawings, the handle A is provided at its Jforward end with a head B havin a recess therein to receive the bristle-hol ino' plate C, the said head B being also provi4 edwith a rabbet B- against which the sides of the bristle-holding plate C rest when in place. The outer position on the handled head of the brush.
end of the head .B is provided with aftlange E to support the outer end of th@A bristleholding plate C. The rear end of the bristongue Cf' resting on the under side ofzthe head B at the neck BZthereof, and which 65,. i tie-holding vplate C is in the form of a neck joins the handle A'. The tongue C2 is adapted to be engaged by a ring F, slidably held on the neck B2 to clamp the tongue C2 in position on the neck B2 of thehead B; In order to hol'dthe ring F against acci,- dental displacement onI the neck B2 and the tongue C2, the latter is provided with a re-` cess C8. adapted to be engaged by said ring F so as to securely clamp the tongue in position. 0n sliding the ring F rearwardly it disengages the tongue "C2, thusunlocking -the latter and allowing theauser to removethebristle holder from the head B whenever it isdesired to replace the worn out bristle holder by a new one or to permit of disassembling the parts to allow of cleaning the saine with a View to keep the brush. The
at all times in sanitry condition. Flange 'E forms an integral part of the outer end of the head B, and is preferably half round, and the outer end C of the bristleholdirwa plate C is correspondingly shaped, so thai; the saidl end snugly fits onto the flange and is supported thereby, and when the ring F is slipped over the tongue gC'z, the bristle-holding plate is securely fastened in position on vthe head. v
The brush shown and described is very simple in construction and composed Ofcommentioned..
Having thus describedfmy invention, I
' parativelyfew parte, which can be readily Y' assembled and disassembled for the purposes A brush, comprising` a handle'having'anl integral headV providedwith a recess and vided at the orwardend with an integral angega bristle-holding plate seated ,on the .105' with a rabbet, the said head being also pr@ -A said rabbet and having its forwarf ing on thev said ange, the fear end of the ,of two subscribing witnesses.
said plate terminating in a tongue, and a x ring held on the neck of the said head and ,BRAHAM LIMOLN HOLTLMM' adapted to engage the sind tongue and Witnesses: clamp thesame against the neck. TiuEo. G. HosTER,
Inv testimony whereof I have signed 'my v, PHILIP D. RoLLIrAUs.
