Cama' FRAHE OR. MOUNT.
Speciicacion of Letters Patent.
Application le April 28, 1911. Serial No. 623,93/8.
Patented oet. 21, 1913.
To .aZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, O'rro C. SCHWARZ, a
i Y citizehof the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of, Cook and State of Illino-is, vhave invented certain new Aand useful Improvements in Card Frames or Mounts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and enact descrip#- tion thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to t-he characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
This invention relates to improvements in card frames or mounts more especially .adapted for mounting souvenir postal cards.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide an inexpensive, light and attractive framefor this purpose, and` so arranged that the cards to be exhibited may be readily applied to the :frame and withdrawn without liability to distorting or breaking the card.
In the drawing Figure l is the face View of a card frame or mount embodying my inve'ntion.v Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views taken on the line 2--2 and 3-13, respectlvely, of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a face view `o a moditied form'of the frame or mount. Figs. 5 and 6 are sectional views on lines. 5-5 and 6 6, respectively, of Fig. 4.
The frame shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 comprises a flat plate or member 10 providedv with a central opening 11, upper and lower strips 12-12 applied to the front face of said plate or member and side strips 14-14 which extend between and preferably abut at their ends against the inner or adjacent edges of the upper and lower strips. The said strips may b'e nailed, glued, or otherwise fastened to the plate or member 10.
The strips Whenthus arranged produce on the face of the plate or member 10, irreect, a recess or depression 15 to receive a card to be mounted on the device, and of a length less than the card to be so mounted. The inner marginal parts of the upper and lower strips .are undercut at the sides thereof adjacent to the fiat plate or member 10, to furnish grooves 16 to receive the ends of a card to be mounted on the device, and also to provide overhanging lips 17 which engage the card to hold the same in place. The said undercut grooves and lips extend preferably to the inner sides of the side strips 14, at the ends thereof. The said side strips 14 are spaced at .a distance apart approximately l, equal to the width of the card to'be mounted on said device, and said side strips and the ends of .the'undercut grooves serve to hold the card laterally in lace.
A card is mount in the frames by inserting one of its ends into one of the undercut grooves 16, bowing the card slightly at its center and applying its otherend to the opposite undercut groove 16. Thereupon the card is. allowedtto straighten yto force both ends of 1|1e card beneath the overhang-A ing lips 1l. The card is thus held fiat againstthe iiat frame member. It is held from moving endwise by the end strips 12 and is held from movingsidewise by the side strips 14. Thus the frame may be hung eitherfin a horizontal or endwise position and the card will be retained securely in place in all positionsl of the frame.
The central hole 11 is provided'to facilitate the removal of a card from the frame and also to facilitate its. mounting on the frame. Thus when the card is tobe ref moved, one of the fingers of the person demounting the card is applied through the hole11, to spring or bow the center portion of the card outwardly, so as to withdraw its ends away from the undercut groove 16 and also to raise the bowed portion of the card above the side strips 14. Thereupon the card may be readily removed. If the fingerl be placed through the hole 11 when a card is being mounted on the frame, it will add to the ease with which the card may be applied to the frame.
In the construction shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6, the fiat plate or member ,20 has an oval or other suitably shaped opening 21 through which the card is designed to be exhibitedsaid card being applied to the back of the fiat frame member. The card is held on therear face of said member by strips 22-22, one above and'the other below said opening, 21'. Said strips are undercut at their inner or adjacentmarginal parts to form grooves 23 to receive the card end Y purpose as an opening through which to exhibit the card and also as a means to facilitate the application of the card to and its removal from the frame.
I claim as my invention,
A card mount or frame comprising a mount member provided with an opening, two holding bar strips applied to one face of said member at two opposite sides of said 10 opening and spaced apart from each other a distance loss than the length of the card to be supported thereby, and provided with undercut grooves having fixed or unyielding bottoms to receive the two opposite end 15 edges of the card to hold the same in flat. re-
lation against the mount member, said grooves havingl end shoulder ortions engaging the corner ends of the side edges of the card` to hold the same against lateral displacement with respect to the mount 20 member, substantially as described. y
In testimony, that I claimthe foregoing as my invention I aix my Signature in the presence of two Witnesses, thls 15th day of April A. D. 1911.
