description of the "invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in glass show cases, and more particularly to such cases having rounded or quadri-cylindrical ends and its object is to provide suitable fastening means for holding the plates of such a show case,- and to provide the same with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
My invention consists essentially of a show case having its base and back of the usual construction; flat glass top and front plates and quadri-cylindrical glass end plates and fastening means comprising couplings at the adjacent upper corners of the front and end plates; thin metal strips connecting said couplings and extending along the upper end of the front plate, and a thin metal strip attached to each coupling at one end extending along the convex surface of each end plate near the upper edge thereof and terminating in tightening means at the other end connecting the same to the back of the case, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective of a show case embodying my invention; Fig. 2 an enlarged detail in perspective of a portion of the same; Fig. 3 a further enlarged detail in perspective showing the tightening means; Fig. 4 a plan view of the case; Fig. 5 a sectional detail of the tightening means; and Fig. 6 a perspective detail of one of the couplings and parts attached thereto.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.
1 represents the base and 2 the back of the case is usually constructed and of dimensions and shape to adapt the same to the size and shape of the glass plates.
3 is the front plate of the case consisting of a rectangular flat plate of glass.
4: are the end plates which are quadri-cy- EDMUND Monnis, a 1
lindrical in form onevertical edge of each belng opposite the'respectlvevertical edge of the front plate 3 and the other vertical edge inserted in. a suitable groove in the back. 4
5 is the top plate showing an outline to conform to theupper edge of the frontand end plates and the back, and adapted to rest upon the top of the same and preferably ogierhanging a, short distance all around the e ge. i 1 i 6 is a thin flat st'rip'preferahly of metal extending along the upperedge of the plate 3 and between the same and the top plate.
7 is a thin metal strip extending along the convex outer surface of each end plate close to the upper edge thereof.
8 is a coupling plate having a middle portion 8 resting upon the adjacent ends of the front plate and end plate 3 and 4: and turned down at opposite sides thereof to embrace the adjacent corners of the same as at 8 and 8*. To the portion 8 of this coupling one end of the strip 6 is secured there being a coupling at each end of the same at the adjacent upper corners of the plates 3 and 4. To the vertical front portion 8 of each coupling is attached one end of the strip 7 heretofore described, the other end being provided with a screw 7 a secured thereto and located within a groove in the back 2. On the rear of the back and extend ing opposite this groove is a plate 13 through which extends an internally thread ed sleeve 12 having a head thereon engagin the plate within which sleeve the member is inserted. By turning'this sleeve with a suitable tool the screw 7 will be drawn into the same and the strip 7 tightened longitudinally the couplings beingslidable on the plates 3 and 4 the tension will also be applied to the strip 6 and thus the plates will be securely held in place against the back at one edge and against the plate 3 at the other edge.
To hold the plates vertically down upon the base a thin metallic strip 9 extends between the adjacent edges bf the plates 3 and 4 and is attached at its upper end to the middle of the part 8 of the coupling, and secured to the base at the lower end in any convenient manner, preferably by a similar tightening device to that shown for the strips 7 Thus by turning these sleeves in one direction the whole structure is rigidly Patented Oct. 7, 1913. Application filed June 13, i912. Serial No. 763.49%
secured in place, and by turning the sleeves 12 in the opposite direction the device can readilybe loosened and taken apart as oc casion requires.
To hold the top plate 5 in place hooks 10 are formed up integral with the coupling and engage the front edge of the plate and end and rear hooks 11 are attached to the ends of the back to engage the rear and end edges of said plate.
What I claim is V 1. A show case comprising a base, a back, a fiat front plate, a curved end plate having one edge engaging the back and the opposite edge engaging the front plate, a coupling member including a web portion and opposite flanges which embrace the adjacent upper corners of the plates, the web portion of the coupling havin a slot therein, a strapsecured in said s 0t of the web portion of the coupling and extending along the upper edge of said front plate, a strap connected to the coupling and extending between the adjacent edges of the plates, the
outer fiange'of said coupling having a slot therein, a separate flat strap secured at one end in the slot of said outer flange of the coupling and having its inner fiat face bearing against the outer side of said curved end plate in spaced relation to the upper edge of the end plate to support the latter against site edge of the front plate, a coupling mem- 40 her including a web portion and opposite flanges and which embrace the adjacent upper corner of the plates, the web portion of the coupling having a slottherein, a strip secured in said slotof the web portion of the 45 coupling and extending along the upper j edge of said front plate, the outer 'flange'of said coupling having a slot therein, a flatstrip secured at one end in the 'slot'of said outer flange of the coupling and having its inner fiat face bearing against the outer side of said curved end plate in spaced relation to the upper edge of the end plate to support the latter against outward lateral displacement, and 111651118 for attaching the last-named strip to theback,
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
