CARRIAGE FOR ROFEWAYS AND THE LIKE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Fnrrz Donut, re-
, siding at Leipzig, Germany, citizen of the German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Carriages for Ropeways and the Like, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention.
On the four-wheeled ropeway carriages hitherto employed, consistii'ig of two single carriages, the carrying beam suspending the load is supported by the single carriages and is either arranged over the running rollers or hung from a rigidly fitted, horizon tal pivot in the center of the single carriages. lhe former arrangement necessitates a considerably higher construction of the carriage with a consequent lengthening of theconnection rails in the ropeway stations andentails a considerable increase the cost of the supporting structural parts. In the latter case the vertical rotary pivots must be either arranged outside the carrying rope axis, thus making the adaptation of the carriages for negotiating curves more difficult, or, the frame of the hangermust be bent toward the center of the carriages over the rail and hung under the carriage frame, an arrangement which also entails a comparatively high construction and increased cost. In the present invention these drawbacks are avoided by fitting horizon tal pivots on the carrying beam suspending the load, which extend transversely over the rails or carrying rope and around which the'single carriages can move vertically, whereas the vertical pivots which allow the adaptation of the carriages for the curves are quite or very nearly in the center, line of the carriages, which they connect with the horizontal pivots. An example of the construction of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows in elevation the improved carriage and a. portion of the carrying rope. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line A-B, Fig. 1.

The carrying beam 6 is fixed laterally below thecarriage a and carries at both ends a horizontal carrying pivot c which rests pivotally in the bearing bush (Z, whereby a vertical rotation of the single carriage becomes possible. The bearing bushes d carry vertically one above the other the lower supporting pivots e and the upper bearing pivots f, which are themselves pivotally arranged in'the lower supporting bearings g and the upper bearings it. The bearing bushes (Z with the pivots e and f are fitted between the two running rollers 2' at the level of the running roller axle, and, for the purpose of allowing the centrally horizontal movement of the single carriages a, in the interior of the carriage body and above the center of the carrying rope.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. In a double carriage for ropeways, consisting of two single carriages with two wheels each and a beam connecting these carriages and situated at the side thereof, horizontal pivots extending from the ends of the said supporting beams above and transversely to the rail, and vertical pivots near the centerplane of the rail and connecting the said horizontal pivots with the respective bodies of the single carriages.
2. In a double carriage for ropeways, consisting of two single carriages with two wheels each and a beam connecting these carriages and situated at the side thereof, horizontal pivots extending from the ends of the supporting beams above and transversely to the rail and through the side shield of the carriage, and vertical pivots near the center plane of the rail and connecting the horizontal pivots with the respective bodies of the single carriages.
3. Ina double carriage for ropeways consisting of two single carriages with two wheels each and a beam connecting these carriages and situated at the side thereof,
horizontal pivots extending from the ends of the supporting beams above and transversely to the rail in about the same height;
as the axles of the wheels and through the side shield of the carriage, and vertical pivots near the center plane of the rail and connecting the horizontal pivots with the respcctive bodies of the single carriages.
