BOBBIN WINDER. AI3PLIOATI0N TILED MAR. 2, 1912.

- AUGUST BELZQQF SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM 0F HENRI LEVY,
OF RORSCHACH, SWITZERLAND.
- BQBBIN-WINDER.
To all whom, may concern.
Be it known that I, AUGUST BnLz, a c1tizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Goldach, Switzerland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bobbin-Winders; and Lclo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and. to let-' during each period of working once to and fro toward the bobbin spindle, which yielding part is formed so that when approaching the bobbin spindle the hook leans against the rear end of the bobbin on the bobbin spindle end and the pointof the hook is situated in front ofthe rear end side of the bobbin, y p y One form of construction of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, parts of. the machine being omitted which are not necessary for purposes of explanation.
Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with parts in section drawn at a larger scale. of the same. Figs. 1, 5, 6 and 7 are detail views.
12 is the bobbin spindle shaft and 6 is the bobbin spindle. At one end of the shaft there is mounted a friction disk 13, a second friction disk 14 being mounted on the auxiliary shaft 15. ()n the shaft 12 there is also rigidly mounteda worm 16 from which a thread guide is impelledin the manner shown for example in the patent to Berger No. 977157 of November 29, 1910, but these parts are omitted on the drawing as they form no part of this invention. The bobbin spindle shaft 12 is mounted to rotate in a bracket. 17, which is fixedly secured by screws 18 to a rod 19 mounted'to slide axially to the bobbin spindle 6. The bracket is supported in vertical position by a roller 35 on each side of the bracket. On the shaft 15 there is Specification of Letters Patent. AppIication filed March 2, 1912. Serial No. 681,177.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation also mounted a worm 20 which meshes with a worm wheel 20 mounted on a shaft 21. On this latter shaft is mounted a coupling member 23 which is axially movable but prevented from turning about the shaft. The bobbin when being wound presses on a finger 27 at one end of the double-armed lever 28 mounted to turn about a fixed axle 29. A. spring 30 presses the finger 27 against the bobbin. A second lever 31 is mounted to turn about a fixed axle 32 and engages by a roller 33 a circular groove 23 of the coupling member 23. The ends 28 and 31 of the levers are edged and pressed against each other by a spring 34. The coupling member 23 is adapted to engage by the pressure of a spring 36 a second coupling member 24 mounted on a shaft 22. To this latter shaft is secured a cam disk 25 acting on a roller 26 mounted on the bracket 17. A spring 37 presses the roller 26 against the cam disk 25.
A lever 1 is mounted to turn about a fixed axle 3 and carries a comb 1 used to produce the final windings of the bobbin in a well known manner. The comb is oscillated in the usual manner by a cam disk 5 which is fixed on the shaft 22. A spring 38 presses the lever 1 against the cam disk 5. Each time when a bobbin 11 is finished with the exception of the binding being wound the finger27 is pressed downward by the bobbin 11 and the end 28 of the lever 28 raised so much that the lever 31 is released and its end 31 by the action of spring 34: moved below the lever 28. The coupling member 23 by the pressure of spring 36 is displaced on the shaft21 so that it engages the coupling member 24. The shaft 22 rotates with the shaft 21. The lever 1 being pressed against the cam disk 5 is turned so that the comb 4 is moved toward the bobbin spindle and presses on the bobbin 10 on the end of the bobbin spindle until the binding is secured, whereafter at the backward movement of the lever 1 the comb 1 is moved away from the bobbin spindle 6 releasing thus the finished bobbin 10 to be removed from the bobbin spindle. By the side of the comb at a spring 7 by means of a screw 8 is adjustably mounted on the lever 1, which in consequence of the oscillating movement of the lever 1 during each period of working moves once to and fro in the direction toward the bobbin spindle in the same manner as the comb 4. The end of the spring Patented Sept. 13,1213.
r the bobbin spindle 6, the bobbin 10 provided with the binding and the bobbin 11. The thread hereby is caught by the hook shaped end of the spring 7 and severed. The end of thethread of the bobbin 10 is secured to the binding in a well known manner by means of the comb 4e. 7 By means of the cam disk 25 and the roller 26 the bracket 17 is moved and the bobbin removed from the bobbin spindle. Hereafter by means not shown on the drawing the lever 31 is turned back again so that the coupling members 23 and 24 are disconnected. The winding of a new bobbin begins herewith. The above described action of the spring 7 is repeated at each period of working of the machine.
As compared with the old mechanisms in which a pin or a knife is moved between the bobbin spindle and the connecting thread between two bobbins on the spindle the advantage of my improved device for severing the connecting thread between the bobbins is that no part of the device touches the bobbin spindle and wears the latter or is worn. by it. VVit-h the old mechanisms of the described type the pin or knife touches the bobbin spindle and this latter being edged and rotating at a very great speed is worn at this place. These worn spindles easily break. Vith my improved device the hook shaped end of the spring can never touch the bobbin spindle because the said spring is adjusted to be supported 7 by the end of the bobbin.
Instead of the spring any suitable part yielding like the spring and shaped as a hook or provided with a hook may be used. In consequence of the yielding of the said part it will never be unfavorably influenced in its operation and need not be specially adjusted to the varying thicknesses of the ends of the bobbins (Figs. 5 and 6). If the said spring is adjusted on the lever 1 for a bobbin of the thinnest possible end, it will be bent more or less according to the size of the bobbin end. The yielding part may for instance be made of a wire instead of a plate spring.
