Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 19,1913.
Application filed August 31, 1912. Serial No. 718,137.
This invention relates to improvements in.
concrete mixing machines and has for its object to provide a pair of co-acting mixing drums in which a cement compound may be mixed in a dry state in one drum and then delivered to a moistening drum where it may again be mixed.
\Vith the above and other objects in view I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my cement mixer, Fig. 2 is a top plan view partly in section of the forward end of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line A-A of Fig. 1 enlarged, Fig. 1 isan enlarged sectional view on line B-B of Fig. 1,Fig. 5 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view through the mixer, Fig. 6 is a section on line C-C of Fig. 5, Fig. 7 is an end elevation of the device, Fig. 8 is a detail plan view of a battle plate and Fig. 9 is a detail plan view of another baffle plate.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a truck frame upon which is mounted a chute frame 2 which together with the bearing 3 forms bearings for the shaft 4. Fixedly mounted upon said shaft is a conical drum 5 which terminates and. opens into an enlarged cylindrical drum 6, which is relatively shorter than said first drum whereby the mixture therein will be confined to a space approximately the length of a receptacle to receive the mixture. The outer wall 7 of the drum 6 is provided with an opening 8 through which a stationary chute 9 projects, a mouth 9' of said chute being loosely mounted on said shaft 4. On the frame 2 is a chute'lO divided by a partition 11 into two compartments 12 and 13, the incline bottom wall 1 1 of which projects into the mouth 15 of said .drum 5 whereby cement and gravel which are formed separately into the compartments 12- and 13, respectively is fed into said cylinder 5. 7
On the forward end of the frame 1 is mounted an engine 16 which rotates the shaft '17 having a cog wheel 18 thereon which engages the cog wheel 19 on the shaft 4, whereby said shaft and the drums 5 and 6 are rotated. Mounted within the drum 5 are a series of opposingly inclined fixed battle plates 20 which in their rota-- tion shovel and thoroughly mix the ingredients fed into said drum and on account of their inclined position gradually feed the mixture to the outer end of said drum and into the drum 6. Fixedly mounted within said drum 6 are a series of plates 21 which incline from the outer ends of said drum 6, toward the center thereof whereby the con crete material will be thoroughly shoveled and mixed with water which may be fed into the drum 6 through the opening 8 by means of a hose or as otherwise desired. The plates 21, during the rotation of the drum 6 will also gradually feed the concreted mixture in the mouth 9 0f the chute 9 whereby the material will be fed out of the said drum.
I claim The described device consisting of a pair of drumsfixedly connected to one another and-a shaft upon which said drums are mounted and by means'of which they are rotated, one of said drums being elongated and gradually increasing in diameter in the direction of said other drum, said other drum being relatively much shorter than said first drum and relatively much larger in vdiameter than said first drum, a series of opposingly inclined plates in said first drum, said plates being spirally arranged, a series of opposingly arranged plates in said other drum, said last named plates be- -ing inclined toward the verticalcenter of their drum.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. CARL ADOLF- KILGUS.
