DISINFECTANT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 15, 1913.
Application filed October 14, 1912. Serial No. 725,691..
To all Lo/wm t may concern Be it known that I, FRED A. Grunn), a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Disinfectant-Holders; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improvements in disinfectant holders for use in connection with urinals and closet bowls, the same being so constructed that the water used in flushing the same will be impregnated with the disinfectant during each fiushing operation.
A further object of the invention is to so construct a holder of this character that the room or place in which it is located will be disinfected.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view of a closet bowl, showing the holder in place therein. Fig. 2 is a side view of the holder attached. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamp. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view of a Aurinal showing the holder in place thereon. Fig. 5 is a front view showing the holder in place and in section. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6 6 of Fig. 4l. Fig. 7 is a similar View on line 7--7 of Fig. 4. Fig. 8 is a detail view of the bracket designed for application upon the flush pipe of a urinal.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a cylindrical body having its opposite ends closed by plates 2, said body when in use being disposed horizontally in relation to the bowl 3. The body 1 is divided into compartments 4L and 5 by the partition 6, communication being had to the compartments 4C and 5 through necks 7, said necks being provided near their upper ends with perforations 8 through which the fumes from the disinfectant material may pass. Pivotally connected to the upper ends of the necks 7 are covers 9 which serve to prevent any water which may splash from entering the compartments through the necks 7 A bracket 10 is provided and has its foot 11 secured to the upper central surface of the body 1, said bracket further consists of a vertical arm 12 which terminates from the foot 11. The arm 12 terminates in a horizontal arm 13, the outer end of which terminates in a downwardly directed arm 14, the same being provided with a threaded perforation 15 for adjustably receiving the screw 16, the inner end of which bears against the outer surface of the bowl 1 when the arms 12 and 111 span the rim 17 of the bowl.
A longitudinal slot 18 is formed in the body 1 and opens into the compartment 5. Secured adjacent the slot 18 is an upwardly flared lip 19, said lip normally resting against the inner surface of the bowl so that the flush water, or a portion thereof will be directed into the compartment 5 and in contact with the balls 20, which may be formed from any suitable disinfectant material. The water during the passage through the compartment 5 becomes impregnated with the disinfectant and enters the bowl through the perforations 21 formed in the bottom of the compartment 5, thus thoroughly disinfecting the bowl.
The compartment t is especially adapted for containing a liquid disinfectant which is introduced through the neck which leads to said compartment, the fumes from the disinfectant serving to purify or disinfect the air in the place in which the holder is located.
The balls of disinfectant material may be readily introduced to the compartment 5 through the neck 7.
The bracket 22 is provided with a foot 28 which is attached to the holder by suitable securing devices and is provided with a vertical portion 24 which terminates in an outwardly curved arm 25, the upper end of which terminates in a vertical arm 26 having an extension 27 formed upon its upper end, said bracket being for the purpose of supporting the device within a urinal, the curved arm 25 being provided so that the upper edge of the urinal is accommodated, thereby permitting the arm 26 to rest against the flush pipe 28, and held thereagainst by the clip 29.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a disinfectant holder has been provided which contains disinfectants in solid and liquid form, the same being adapt* ed for use upon closetbowls or urinals.
What is claimed is l. In a device of the class described, a body comprising a pair of compartments, one of said compartments being adapted to contain disinfectant in solid form and the other disinfectant in liquid form, necks have ing communication With said compartments 'for filling` the same, means for supporting said body in a closet receptacle, and means for directing Water into the compartment containing the solid disinfectant.
2. In a device oi the class described, a body divided into compartments, one of said compartments beingadapted to contain disinfectants in solid 'form and the named compartment, an upwardly flared lip secured adjacent said slot for directing Water into said compartment, and a bracket secured to the body and adapted to detachably support the same Within a closet receptacle.
In testimony whereof, I aiiiX my s1gnature, 1n presence of two Witnesses.
FRED A. CREED. Witnesses M. J. OLOONEY, L. WARNER.
