Description
W. G. RICHARDSON.
BUCKLE AND-THE LIKE.
APPLICATION 11,111) 111111: 6, 1911.
1,065,171, Patented June 17,1913.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM GEORGE RICHARDSON, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
BUCKLE AND THE LIKE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VILLIAM GEORGE RICHARDSON, a subject of the King of England. residing at 181 Queen Victoria street, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles and the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to strap buckles, and has for its purpose to provide a buckle constructed with means whereby the free end of the strap is engaged by and securely held by a member attached to the secured end of the strap, to the end that said strap is more rigidly held in its adjusted position.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which like numerals designate like parts in all the views z-Figure 1 is a top plan View of the device showing its manner of application; and Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
Referring to the construction in detail the buckle consists in an ordinary metallic plate a having the necessary curvature, and provided with three elongated perforations 7), c and (l, of which the perforation c has the metal struck therefrom bent downwardly into the form of a groove or loop 6. The loop member 0 is designed to receive the ring f, which has secured thereto the fixed end of the strap 9 and the free end of said strap 9 is designed to be laced through the perforations in the buckle and between the ring f and the depressed portion 6, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
The ring f is provided with a plate .9 which has a bearing portion or shank t Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 6, 1911.

pivotally connected at that portion of the ring f which lies within the depressed plate portion 6. In this position the function of the plate 3 is to engage with the strap portions which pass through the apertures b and (Z, and in so doing do bind said strap portions more closely against the face of the buckle to the end of preventing the free end of the strap from being drawn through the buckle, as will be understood.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and, therefore, I do not wish to be limited to such features except as may be required by the claim.
What I claim is A buckle for straps or the like comprising a sheet metal body portion having two parallel slots and an integral and parallel elongated depressed portion therebetween, said depressed portion forming openings in the plate at the respective ends of said depressed portion, and said slots and the depressed portion adapted to have laced therethrough the free end of the strap; a plate coextensive in length with the length of the' depressed portion and overlying the same, said plate provided with a shank fitting within the depressed portion; and a link engaging with the shank of the plate and passing through the openings at the ends of the depressed plate portion, said link adapted to have connected thereto the fixed end of the strap and thereby hold the plate in contact with the immediately adjacent curved portions of the laced end of the strap to prevent said strap end from slipping, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM GEORGE RICHARDSON.
