Description

H 0. BERRY.
Domestic Boiler.
Patented Aug. 16,1870. I
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY O. BERRY, OF VVAUSEON, OHIO.
COOKING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 106,457, dated August 16, 1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. BERRY, of VVauseon, in the county of Fulton, and in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in (looking Apparatus; and do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvement, by which my invention may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
My invention relates to apparatus used in cooking; and the nature thereof consists in the construction and arrangement of several different culinary vessels in such a manner that they may be used either separately, together, or in combinations of two or more, within an ordinary covered pot or kettle, in sucha manner that several substances may be cooked at the same time, and the aroma or exhalations evolved in the process of cooking be preserved.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my invention and forms a part of the specification thereof, and in which correspondin g parts are-illustrated by similar letters, Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section of the apparatus; and Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5, perspective views of the parts thereof in detail.
The construction, operation, and relative arrangement of the component parts of my invention are as follows:
The part indicated by the letter A is intended to be used in the bottom of the pot or vessel F, and rests on the circular flange a of said bottom of vessel F, or otherwise elevated, to prevent the edibles from burning while cookin g. The partA may be used separately or in connection with the other parts.
The part indicated by the letter B is constructed with legs, by means of which, or otherwise, it may be elevated in the pot or vessel, and may be used separately or in connection with the part indicated by the letter O, which may be attached to B by means of lugs 11 b, or otherwise formed on the said part B. This vessel 0 may be used in cooking one or more articles at the same time, and also used in connection with or separatelyfrom the other parts.
The part indicated by the letter D is a closelyconstructed vessel, with cover, and may be used in connection with either or all of the other parts, or' separately by the attachment of legs or other means of elevation. This vessel is for the purpose of cooking various articles wherein the flavor is to be retained.
The part indicated by the letter E is a cover, which may be supplied with a valve in top,
and may be used separately or in connection with the parts B, O, D, and E. Next intro- 1 duce the part B, upon which various articles may be cooked, or may be used as a rest or support to elevate and hold the close vessel D; or, by the attachment of O to B, the said vessel 0 may be used for various purposes in cooking, and upon which the part D can also be used.
The part E is intended to rest upon the top of the pot or vessel F, forming a chamber, the purpose of which is to retain heat and prevent the escape of condensed steam, and may be used with any or all of the other parts.
When the aforesaid devices are used separately or in combination, they facilitate economy, speed, and the production of superior cookin g.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by 'Letters Iatcut- A cooking apparatus constructed and composed of the various parts herein shown and described, when arranged as and for the purposes herein specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of February, 1870.
H. O. BERRY.
IVitnesses:
J. L. Boron, SYD. SHAFFER.
