Description

W. DUNCAN HAME FOR HARNESS.
N .106,34-1-. Patented Aug. 16, 1870.
"waited fiat-ma WILLIAM DUNCAN, or SPRING HILL, INDIANA.
Letters Patent No. 106,341, dated August 16, 1870.
p--- o.ew'
mrnovsmmw m Ems roa mess.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and snaking part of the same.
To all whom i tnuay concern:-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM DUNCAN, of Spring Hill, in the county of Decatur and in the State of Indiana, have invented an Improved. Hames-for Harness; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing and to the letters and figures of rel'ercnce marked. thereon.
The nature of the invention consists in the construction and use of the hames hereinafter described,
said'dcvice to be made of wood and iron, or any other suitable and convenient materials.
To enable others skilled in the art to makeand use my said inrention, I proceed to describe it more fully, as follows: v
Figure No. 1 is a view of the device.
A B is a wooden hame.
D D, the trace-hook.
g g, a loop of rod metal.
f, a set-screw.
G, a metal cap or thimble, held in its place by a set-screw.
This hamejs hollowed on the inside, the more accurately to fit the collar, as represented 'by h i of Figures 2' and The hook D 1) is more fully shown by Figure 4, it
. being of the shape thcrc represented.
The thiinhlc or cap 0 is more fully represented by Figure 5.
u and (l are loops to which the reins may be attached, and b a loop to which the homes-string may be attached.
The hook I) D is fitted on the hames by means of rests in the notch E, on' the inside of the hames, or in the mortise e a of fig. 3.- It is held in its place by a set-screw at f, but this screw may be replaced by a spring, wedge, or eccentric.
To usemy said device, all the various parts are arranged as represented in said fig. 1. The hames are then put. on as usual, the upper hames-string being fastened in the loop b, and the lower .one in the usual mortise. It will now be found that the award side In will accurately tit the collar, and thereby avoid any mashing of the collar that might be produced by a straight-sided-hame.
, 1f the point of draft is not properly adjusted to the horses shoulders, the setscww atf may be loosened, and the hook D D slipped, so as to adjust it. i
The thimble or band 0 may be also moved so as to suit such an adjustment.-
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pateat, is-- v 1. A wooden hame, constructed with the curved inside h i and the notch E, substantially as herein setforth.
2. A hame, curved as afiiresaid, and constructed with the notch and moitise E e -e, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of 'the haine.A B, the tmee'i hook D, the loop g g, the set-screw f, and the capor thimble O, in manner and form substantially as set forth.
In testimony that! claim the foregoing specification, I have hereunto set my handthis 1st day of February, 1870.
WILLIAM DUNCAN. Witnesses Gso. H. Zmcmsn, GEORGE Roman.
