To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARGARETTE MAUDn DANIELS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Dalton, in the county of Cheyenne and State of Nebraska, have invented new and Improved J ump-Seats for Go Carts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invent-ion relates to detachable front seats for go-cart-s, usually termed jump seats.

The object of my invention is to provide a spring-supported jump seat having novel means for securing it to the folding frame of the go-cart at the front.

The invention will be particularly explained in the specific description hereinafter to be given, and the novel features will be defined in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views. K

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved jump seat applied to a go-cart; Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of my improved seat showin a portion of the go-cart frame; Fig. 3 is a etached perspective view of one of the clamping devices of the seat on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 4 is a fragmentarydetail in perspective showing a securing end of one of the seat springs.

Referring to the drawings, 10 represents a go-cart of standard make, of which the top frame of the body consists of side members 11 and a U-shaped front end portion 12, sup ported from the axles by standards ll, the described frame members being well known and not forming part of my invention. The supporting members comprise a longitudinal spring bar 15, the top portion being secured, as by screws 16, to the under side of the seat 17. The spring bar 15 is curved downward at the front as at 18 and curved rearwardly at its lower end as at 19, and so formed as to have a detachable clamping engagement with a transverse pin 20 which serves as a hinge pin on which the spring may rock, said pin being carried by a clip or shackle for clamping the spring to the cart frame, as hereinafter described. The end 19 of the spring is formed into a jaw 21, and a mating jaw 22 has a flat forward extension 23, which is riveted as at 2a to the, spring 19. The jaws 21 and 22 are concave on their inner faces to form a transverse elongated eye that surrounds the hinge pin 21, and the jaws are held in clamped engagement on the hinge pin 21 by a sliding ring 25 or equivalent device.

In addition to the longitudinal spring bar 15, a transverse arched spring bar 26 is provided and suitably secured to the seat 17 at the under side, the rear end 27 of the longitudinal spring bar 15 being desirably offset to overlap the under side of the transverse spring bar 26. The lower ends of the transverse spring bar 26 are formed simi larly to the described lower end 19 of the longitudinal spring bar 15, and are similarly secured in .place by a clip or shackle. Each shackle comprises a front plate 30 having. forwardly extending cheeks 81 to which the hinge pin 20 is secured, and U shaped shackle bolts 32, the threaded ends of which receive suitable nuts 33 for clamping the plate 30 against the frame members 11 and 12 respectively of the go-cart. The bolts 32 pass through lateral ears 34 formed integrally with the front plate 30 and projecting in pairs beyond the cheeks 31. The shackles securing the transverse spring bar 26 are located on the side bars 11 of the gocart, while the lower end of the front longitudinal spring bar 15 is secured to the front member 12 of the frame.

The seat may be quickly attached to the cart or detached therefrom to permit folding of the go-cart by simply sliding the rings 25 to open or close the jaws 21 and 22. The seat supports a foot board 40 which is hung from the under side of the seat by hanger bars 41.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A jump seat attachment for go-carts comprising longitudinal and transverse spring bars supporting the seat and having downwardly and inwardly curved ends, the lower ends of the spring bars each forming a spring clamping jaw, mating spring jaws secured to the spring bars, and shackles having members adapted to pass between the said spring jaws and with which the said jaws'have detachable clamping engagement.

2. A jump seat attachment for go-carts,

comprising longitudinal and transverse spring bars carrying a seat, separable spring clamp jaws on the lower ends of the springs, detachable securing means consisting of a front plate carrying a hinge pin adapted to be detachably gripped by the clamp jaws of the spring, adjustable means for holding the jaws in clamping position and U-shaped shackle bolts for clamping said front plates.

3. A jump seat attachment for folding go-carts comprising a longitudinal spring bar and a transverse spring bar, said bars having inwardly curved spring ends, and a shackle for securing each of said ends, the said shackle comprising a front plate having forwardly extending cheeks carrying a hinge pin and provided with pairs of lateral ears at the bases of said cheeks, and U-bolts and nuts engaging said ears for clamping said plate to the go-cart frame, the ends of the spring bars being each provided with .7 movable spring jaws and a clamping device for the jaws to detachably engage said jaws with the hinge pins on the shackle plates.

4. A jump seat attachment for go-carts comprising spring bars supporting the seat and having downwardly and inwardly curved ends, shackles provided with hinge pins, spring jaws on the lower ends of the bars for engaging the hinge pins, and slid ing rings on the said bars for opening and closing the spring jaws.

5. A jump seat attachment for go-carts, comprising spring bars supporting the seat and having downwardly and inwardly curved ends, the lower ends of the bars being each formed into a jaw, spring mating jaws having extensions at one end secured to the spring bars, the said jaws being concave on their inner faces, shackles for connection with the go-cart frame and having hinge pins adapted to pass between the spring jaws, and means carried by the spring bars for opening the jaws, or for holding the same in engagement with the said hinge pins.
