Description

H. BROWN.
NEGKTIB.
APPLICATION HLBD APR.12, 1909.
Patented A131222, 1913.
wumm wm i alkyl/mudo l prising certain new and novel features, allv i i Para HARRY BROWN, 02E"A PHILADELPHI., PENNSYV'LVANIA;
NECKTIE.
Application filed April 12, 1909. Serial No. 489,268.
To all 'whom t mag/concern:
-Be it known that I, HARRY BROWN, a citi zen of the United States, residing in the city and count-y of Philadelphia, State of Penn- Sylvania, have invented a new and useful Necktie, of which. the following is a specication.
My invention consists of a necktIe comas will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure l represents a st-ructure embodying my invention in broken front elevation. Fig. 2 represents in broken rear elevation a portion of the same structure.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a tie having neck band 2 widened at 3 and 4: to form terminals, 5 and 6, of which 5 is preferably shorterthan 6 in the type shown,
to conformwith the usual dimensions of four-in-hand ties. While the illustration shows a tie of this character, the invention is in no way limited to use with this particular type or character of tie, but is capable of use generally in ties of all the diderent types and characters. l
In the front of the tie, in the form shown within the longer of the tying' ends, I pro vide a lace center 7 which may be of any desired pattern and which I have shown, in its preferred form, as'having borders 8 and 9 one upon each side thereof within the width of the tie. The lace may not only extend to any width desired but may also extend to any desired length within the tie and is preferably woven bodily into the-tie forming mtegral plain bordering edges which may be turned to form back 1t) of the tie and, if desired, they are of different colors.
From the above it will be seen' that I pro vide a necktie with one of the end portions provided with a` o'rtion of its front knitted 11h open-work mes andthe back and border of the end portion being formed of solid or close weave4 roviding a strengthenin border therearound t-ie will be carried by the close weave, the
whereby all strain on t e neckborder around the open mesh preventing pulling or separation thereof and holding the same in properl position. WhereA so extended they are most desirably united by a. seam as at 11. The entire tie'may of course be woven or knitted in any desired or suitable manner.
It will be evident that the structure maybe attained by separate attachment of the back at the edgesand that the permissible variation in the color or tone of the lace by effect of the back seen therethrough considerably enhances the desirability of my invention. Variety of effect Vin combinations of contrasting or harmoniz'ing colors of lace and backing can thus be attained.
It will be evidentthat I afford a lace front of any desired width or portion of the width of the tie with a border, where desired, of plain material, and I set olf the lace by a preferably plain backing of the same or different material or color presenting capability for a wide variety of combination effects.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at reS- ent pre erred by me, since the same has een found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be undere 'stood that the various instrument-alities of gral piece and lof tubular form, and one of said end portions having a portion of its front knitted in open-work mesh which is shorter and narrower than the said end portion, the said neckband, the other end portion, and the back and border of the first end portion being formed of solid or close weave, providing a strengthening border mesh plaoedimmediately against the close around the open work mesh whereby 53.11` wea've of `the back.
strain on the neckte will be carried b the close weave, and the border aroun the HARRY BROWN' 5 open mesh reventng pulln or separation Witnesses:
thereof, an to hol the same -in 0.1). MCVAY,
proper position wit the said open. work J.C. McGLAsnEN.
