IMPROVEMENT IN FENCE.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

1'0 all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, J oHN WESLEY CHERRY, of Carthage, Hancock county, Illinois, have made a new and useful Improvement in Fences; which I declare to be made and used substantially as shown and set forth herein, and in the accompanying drawing, in which are letters of reference corresponding with those used herein- Figure 1 being an end riew or elevation of theend of a section of my fence as in use, and.

The object' of my invention is to construct a good and simple portable fence for general use.

A, B, G, and D are four,'more or less, boards nailed into a panel of fence, by means of the cross-bars E, F, and G, as shown.

Several of these separate panels are used to make the fence. They are placed end to end in a straight line with the ends of the boards which project beyond the cross-bars, lapping onto each other;

The fence is upheld bya triangular frame at the end of each panel, :is shown in ligure 1.

This frame Vis formed of upright parts H I, crossed at the top and spreading at the base, to form a braced frame.

lThese parts are connected by'two or three crossparts, K L.

These cross parts have notches, as M and N, so arranged that the boards of the panels will fit their edges therein to prevent side movement, and also upand-down movement. l

The top'board, A', may either be hung in the fork of the cross H I on top, to support the fence, and may he thus arranged to serve as ahigh-fence forlarge stock, and it may likewise be arranged topass under the'cross and rest on the board K, to make a tight low fence for small stock.

I can use a form as follows:

W'hat I claim is- The portable fence, made of separate panels, belt at the ends by the triangular frame H I, having thx cross parts K, L, with notches M N, and fork abov( the cross of H- and I, all substantially as specified.
