ANTI-SEPTIC raornc'roa FOR MOUTHPIECES.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 7, 1913.
Application filed May 15,1912. Serial No. 697,380.
To alt whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD A. DIETERIOH, a citizen of the UnitedStates, and a resident ofthe cityof New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county andState of New York, have invented a new and Improved Antiseptic Protector for Mouthpieces, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved antiseptic protector for mouthpieces of telephones, speaking tubes and the like, and arranged to present to the user a thoroughly disinfected and agreeably smelling traveling web extending over the entrance end of the mouthpiece with a view to prevent contamination of the mouthpiece and to protect the user of the telephone against transmittible diseases. For the purposementioned use is made of a casing or box adapted to be attached to the mouthpiece of a telephone transmitter, speaking tube and the like, rollers journaled in the said casing on opposite sides of the mouthpiece, and an endless web passing around the said rollers and having the runs of the web doubled up and stretched over the entrance end of the mouthpiece.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
' out; Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same; Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of a portion of one of the rollers; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the web.
As illustrated in the drawings, the antiseptic protector is applied to the transmitter A of a telephone and the mouthpiece B of the said transmitter is within a casing or a box C having in its back C an opening C through which passes the threaded nipple-of the mouthpiece B so that the back C of the box C is clamped between the rear end of the mouthpiece B and the body of the transmitter A- to hold the casing C in position on the transmitter. The front cover C of the casing C is provided with an opening C registering with the entrance end of the mouthpiece B and in the front'portion of f the casing C are journaled drums D, D and guide rollers E, E arranged above the top over the entrance end of the mouthpiece B,
thus protecting the interior of the mouthpiece from contamination. The drums D and D are hollow and provided with perforated rims, and the said drums may be 'filled with a perfume adapted to pass through the perforations in the rims of the drums D, D onto the web F as the latter. passes around the said drums. The drums D and D are provided at the ends with slid ing doors D to permit of charging the drums with perfume. In thebottom of the casing C is arranged a drawer G adapted to contain a disinfecting powder carried to the outer face of the web F by a revolving brush H journaled in the sides of the casing C. The drum D and the brush H are connected with each other by meshing gear wheels I, I to rotate the brush H in unison with the drum D. The shaft of the drum D is provided at one outer end with a knob J to permit the user of the telephone to turn the ss drum D and thus impart a traveling motion to the web F to move a portion thereof over the mouthpiece B. The traveling motion given to the web F causes rotation of the drum D and the brush H whereby the latter takes up some of the disinfecting powder in the drawer G and transfers the powder to the web F to disinfect the same. In order to insure a positive traveling motion of the web 1* the sides thereof are preferably provided with rows of apertures F adapted to engage corresponding teeth D on the ends of the drums D, D.
It will be noticed that the outer face of the web F is disinfected and the inner face is perfumed and hence by the arrangement described a thoroughly disinfected and agreeably smelling traveling web extends over the entrance end of the mouthpiece B to prevent contamination of the latter, as described, and at the same time protecting the user of the telephone against transmittlble diseases.
If desired, the hollow rollers or only one of them may be filled with a material which acts both as a disinfectant and a perfume.
One or both rollers can be made either hollow and perforated, 'or solid and no prouser AVAILABLE COPY visions made inside of the rollers for the per fumed material. If the rollers are solid and perfume is wanted it can be mixed with antiseptic, or the antiseptic can be a perfumed antiseptic. The antiseptic can be either a liquid or a powder, and of a scented nature. I
This box also acts as a resonating box thereby acting to improve the sound.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A mouthpiece protector, comprising a casing adapted to contain the mouthpiece and having an opening in the front reglstering with the entrance of the mouthpiece, drums journaled in the said casing, an endless web passing around the said drums and having the runs of the web doubled and stretched over the entrance of the mouthiece, and means for delivering a powder etween the runs of the web.
2. A mouthpiece protector, comprising a casing adapted to contain the mouthplece and having an opening in the front registering with the entrance of the mouthpiece, drums journaled in the said casing, an endless web passing around the said drums and having the runs of the web doubled and stretched over the entrance of the mouthpiece, and means for supplying the said web with a disinfectant.
3. A mouthpiece protector, comprising a casing adapted to contain themouthplece and having an opening in the front registering with the entrance of the mouthpiece, drums j ournaled in the said casing, an end less web passing around the said drums and having the runs of the web doubled and stretched over the entrance of the mouthpiece, a drawer in the said casing and adapted to contain a disinfectant, and a brush rotating in unison with one of the said \drums and extending into the said drawer, the brush being in contact with the said web.
4. A mouthpiece protector, comprising a casing adapted to contain the mouthpiece and having an opening in the front reglstering with the entrance of the mouthpiece,
drums journaled in the said casing on oppo-f site sides of the mouthpiece, the drumsbemg hollow and having perforated rims, and the drums being adapted to contain a powdered meansfor supplying a disinfectant to one face of the web, means for supplying a perfume to the other face of the web, and means for simultaneously operating the disinfectant and perfume supplying means.
. 7 In a telephone mouthpiece protector, a
casing, drums mounted in the casing, a web mounted on the drums,-means mounted in the casing for supplying a disinfectant to the web, and means for operating the disinfectant supplying means from one of the said drums.
8. In a telephone mouthpiece protector, a casing adapted to contain a disinfectant, drums mounted in the casing, a web mounted on the drums, abrush mounted in the casing for delivering the disinfectant to the web, and means for operating the brush from one of the drums.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this" specification in the presence of two subscribin witnesses.
