v To all whom it may concern Y Beit known than I, GiDnoN W. COTTINGHAM, of Marshall, in the county of Harrison and 'State of Texas, have invented a new and improvedV Washing- Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, and

Figure 2 is a plan View.v

This invention consists of a globular caseJor containing clothes, provided with slots for admitting water, in combination witha boiler in which the globe is suspended on trunnions, and with a furnace on which the boiler rests. f

:a is the boiler, which sits on the furnace, and forms the cover of the same.

b is the globular case for containing clothes.`

-c are the slots in the case for admitting water.

al are the trunnions by which the globular case is l supported in the boiler a.

c is the crank by which the case is revolved.

f are the balls placed within the case, for beating the clothes.

rIhe balls, owing tothe force of gravity, seek always the lower part ol the case as thelatter revolves,

and hence their pressure and friction are concentrated so as to produce the greatest results.

By varying the number and weight of -the balls, they may be adapted to light or heavy fabrics.

B, g. 2, is a section of the case made separate from the rest, and removable, and held in place by the slide It, working vunder cross-loops on the section -B and a cross-loop, 7c, on the case.

- This machine is simple and cheap of construction, requires but little force to operate it, is very durable, most excellent for rinsing after the clothes have been washed, inicts very little injury uponfthe clothes during the operation, and is very speedy in doing its Work.

'Ihe case being mounted over a'furnace, the water can be kept at any desired temperature as long as necessary, and all the labor of transferring hot water from the boiler to the tub is avoided.
