ADJUSTABLE DOOR JAMB.
APPLIOATION FILED 0020.4, 1910.

SUSTU'S JESSE SMITH, 033 NEW YORK, N. Y.
anaosrastn noon-rams.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, .lnsrus 3. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York. in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Adjustable Door-Jambs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact do soription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appe tains to make and use the same.
present invention relates to improve ments in adjustab door jambs, and it con sists in providing two members, each made of rolled sheet metal, which may be adjust-- connected together and may be quickly and accurately fitted to any door frame, partition block or the like.
My invention will be understood by referenc'e to the accompanying drawing, in which-- Figure 1 is perspecti e section, showing the edge of view, iartly in the door and a section. through the wall djacent to the door. 1 1g. sh-
a horizontal section shown in l .5. l, but on a larger scale, and Figs. 3 and 4- are details showing the two mcmbe which justably connected tog ..-er, as'slmwn in 1 and 2-.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, A. designates the partition block or wall, and B the door, and with which are as sociated the two members of the device forming the basis of the present invention. One'of said members consists of a rolled metal plate having a portion D, and a narrow portion a: disposed parallel to the portion D or body of the plate. Said member D is also provided with an angular section d disposed at ri 'ht angles thereto and adapted to form an abutment or stop for engaging with the door. A flange connects with the portion (Z, and is disposed parallel with the portions D and m; and which is perforated as shown in Fig. 3 to connect with the other member of the device, as indicated. The portion 02 has right angnlarly disposed extension or flange (Z through the medium of which the device secured to "the partition block A. The second member conof a relatively broad portion Ill having a connected portion lisposed parallel therewith; and said p0 ion 3 has right angularly dispos d flange .2 for securing the same to the n X3. or partition block A.
through the part Specification of Letters Patent.
til the flat portion E screws F, and the blocks,
Patented Dec. 10,. 912.
Application filed @otober 4, 1910. Serial No. 585,301.
The broad portion E is provided with a plurality of elongated slots 6 to receive the rivets: that are carried by the portion d of the first member, and through the medium.
of which the two devices may be adjusted to fit partition blocks or walls of diiferent widths, as will be understood.
For purposes of ornamentation, and also 0 avoid angular edges, which are objectionllble in a door way, the two members D and E may be round-or curved, as shown at d and c respectively, or other artistic configurations may be adopted'if desired.
In order to fit the device to the partition block, it is only necessary to place the ,two strips so that the flanges e and d will bear against the partition block while the member E is fiat against the edge ofthe same, then mark on the flat portion E of the member E the position of the edge of the face at,
then take the two parts down, rivet them together in the relative position just indicated, putup again, slip the flanges e d back unfits snugly against the face of the partition block and insert the door jamb will be held permanently in place.
If desired, plasteril-l, molding or the like, may be put on toh'ide the flanges e 0?, as shown in Figs. land 2.
It will be evidentthat this device may be quickly and accurately fitted to any artition. block, door frame or the like, an thus the necessity for accurately finishing the metal parts, which is found difiicult and expensive in practice, is almost entirely obVi-,
ated.
It is desirable in apparatus of this kind to manufacture and sell standard parts, and to apply these parts so manufactured without material changes or expensive machining to various thicknessesv of partition door frames or the like, and this is accomplished by the herein described c0nthe same time artistic way.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the United States is 1- An adjustable door amb, consisting of two plates of sheet metal, each provided,
struction in a cheap, simple, efficient, and at tion block or of one of said members door frame,
the broad portion having a flat face 3 adapted to bear against the face of the partitionbloek or' vided also with disposed, the
tical face disposed at door frame,
seoondv member and being proelongated slots transversely having a verright angles to said broad'portion thereof and adapted to engage a flange projecting backwardly from said vertical face and in parallel with the door, and
the broad and passing throu narrow portions; ,qh said elongated s10 and rivets ts and said whereof, I aifix my signature,
