Description

UNITE STATES l ATENT OFFICE.,
IMPRovED sHoEMAKERs`, Too| ySpecification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 104.658, dated June 21, 1870.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern? Beit known that I, CAMILLE ST. GERMAIN,
of Oxford, in the county of Worcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a newand useful Combination-Tool,
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference ,being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of' this specication, in which Y Figure l represents a perspective view of myimproved combinationtool, and Fig. 2 represehts a longitudinal central section of the same.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail. Y.
The nature of my invention consists in a combination-tool, as hereinafter described.
My combination-tool is designed more especiallyfor the use of boot and shoe makers in nishingthe edges of the soles and heels; but it may be applied to use in some other branches of' business. It consists of a handle (marked in the drawings A) upon the end of which are vformed a series`of shoulders, B, for
` burnishing edges. These shoulders are of different sizes to suitthe `different thicknesses of stock. At one end is formed a plainbead, C, for creasing corners, while at the other end, set in a'suitable recess, D, is abeading-wheel, E, for beading aroundl the heels.' The wheel E is hung upon a pivot, e, as indicated, and all of the parts are combined ina very compact and convenient form, and by its use the operator is saved the trouble of picking up and `laying down three distinct tools, as is the usual custom. y Y
It will be observedthat the arrangement of the shoulders B B B2 and bead-'wheel E. is such that the operator does not have to turn the tool around in his hand during the whole operation, the small shoulders BB2iitting the shank where the edges are thin, and the' shoulder B fitting the fore part, Where the soles are double and the edges thick, while the beadwheel E is to ornament the heel, at its edge, near the upper, all of which operations can be performed without releasing or turning the tool, thus greatly expediting and diminishing the labor of finishing the edges of boots or shoes.
Having describedV my improved combination-tool,what I claim therein as new, and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as a new article of manufacture, is- A tool composed of a series of burnishingshoulders, B, aplainbead, C, a beading-Wheel,
E, and handle, A, said parts being constructed and arranged in relation to each other, sub stantially as shown and described.
CAMILLE ST. GERMAIN.
