WAINSCOTING.
Application filed July 29, 1912.
To all whom tt may concem:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL FRANKLIN WILLIAMSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, Pennsylvana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVainscoting, of which the following is a speciflcation.
My present invention is an improvement upon that disclosed in Letters Patent of the United States, granted to me October 15, l907, #868382, and it consists in the features and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view.
One object of my present invention is, to provide a wainscoting with a sanitary wash board or strip, the said board or strip having a shoulder at its lower end to receive the floor tiling, the edge of which is overhung by the said shoulder, the said wash board or strip having also an inwardly eXtending portion to unite with or be Secured to the lower edge of the wooden member of the wainscoting. This washboard serves as a molding for the lower portion of the wainscoting, and' because of the overhanging shoulder a sanitary joint is made between the lower part of the wainscoting and the floor tiling by means of this wash board or strip.
In the drawings, coting, formed of 1 indicates the wainswood or other suitable material which may be decorated with panels, such as shown, and with moldings suitably disposed. At the lower portion of the wainscoting my improved wash board or strip 2 is attached, and this may be in any suitable material, as for instance, metal of sheet form rolled or pressed into any ornamental or pleasing design. This board or strip, is secured by screws or otherwise at 3, at its upper edge to the face of the wainscoting and it extends thence downwardly to copies of this patent may be obtained for Specifieaton of Letters Patent.

the lower edge of the wainscoting and thence inwardly as at 4, beneath the wainscoting, where it may be attached in any suitable way, if desired. A shoulder is formed at 5, at the lower edge of the strip, said shoulder being provided by a flange 6 which is curved, or inclined on said upper side, and the surface of which merges gradually into vertical surface of the strip. This shoulder receives the floor tiling 7 The cement base upon which the floor tiling and the wainscoting rests is indicated at 8. It will be noticed that the flange overlaps or overhangs the edge of the floor tiling, and this forms a sanitary joint at this point, which will obstruct the passage of water to the bottom of the wooden wainscoting, 'and thus prevent the same from becoming foul or decayed. The inclined upper surface of the flange will facilitate the operation of cleaning or mopping the floor because an abrupt corner at this point is avoided.
I claim as my invent'on:-
1. In combination with a wainscoting, a wash board member attached to the face of its lower portion, said wash board member having an inwardly eXtending portion engaging the lower edge of the wainscotng, with a flange projecting from the said wash board member at a point above its lower edge forming a shoulder tiling, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a wainscoting, a wash board member attached to the lower portion thereof on its face and having a portion eXtending beneath the lower edge of the wainscoting, and a flange forming a shoulder above the lower edge of said wash board member, and floor tiling engaging the said shoulder, said shoulder being inclined on its upper side, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses. v
SAMUEL ERANKLIN WILLIAMSON.
