iir it known that I, hinhoinou Umusn, n citizen oi the United States of America. residing in New York, in the borough of the .ih'onx, county and State of New ork, intro invented-certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Packages, of which the following is a specification.
'ihis invention relates to an im roved chair-package in which cigars, an more specially the more expensive styles are proeeted against. atmosp teric influences by an noiosine wrap )cr or envelop which vis -';.'=7tii3( around each individuel cigar and vd at the ends; and for this purpose the invention consists of n cignr-pscltnge comprising a cigar, a protective envelop wroppcd around the some and twlsted into cords end closed by sealing? was at the ends.
'ihe invention consists further of the process of wrapping the cigars in the protective envelop by rolling the cigar into an oblong wrapper, twisting the ends into cords, cutting oi? the corded ends and dip ing the some into sealing wax for closing t em.
in the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side-elevation of my. improved oiggnr-pawhage, Figs. 2, 3 and 4 show the successive steps performed in wrapping the ciour into the protective envelop, and Fig. 5 in a vertical transverse section on line 5, 5, Fig. 1. drawn on 11 larger scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspoluilng parts throughout the diiierent figares.
Referring; to the drawing, 0 represents a night of any desired shape, size or style, preferably one of the better and more expensive kind.
I) is the wrapper of oblong shape, which s made of somewhat greater length then he cigar to be wrapped up, and composed of the well-known vellum or Japanese tissuepaper or other suitable flexible msterie inside of the same is placed it layer or tinfoil (I, which is wrs oed with'the ,iepanese tissue-paper aroun the ciger. as shown in Fig. 2. The wrapper is then rolled around the cigar and the ends twistedinto cords b, as shown in Fig. 3. The twisted ends hold the wrapper in close contact with the butt and tip ends of the cigur. Each corded end is out off close to the tip and butt-ends of the cigar, as shown in Fig. 4, after which the twisted ends are dipped into liquid sealing wax or other plastic materiel that burdens after cooling and forms smell buttons 2), as shown in Fi 1. Sealing wax of white color is preferabl y employed. The sealing wax holds the wrapper in position on the cigar and produces the tight closing)" of the some around the cigar. The closely-fitting cover supports the buttons in close proximity to and on the sxiel line of, the cigsr, whereby the ends of the cigar are protected from injury. The osition of the buttons is clearly shown in Fig. l. of the drawing. When the cigar is to be smoked, either one of the solid buttons st the ti or butt end of the cigar is torn oii end tie wrapper removed from the cigar.
The buttons protect the ends of the cigrnr n ainst injury and breakage by contoctwith t e side walls of the box in. which they or contained, and the buttons aii'ord n ready means of breaking), open the package. The prevent the untwistmg of the coiled ends of the package in the act of breaking open the scksge, and thereby cause the clean brea ting of the paper in close proximity to the tip.
The envelop protects the cigar against the influences of theatmospherc and retains the same in fresh and good condition for a considerable length of time.
Having thus described my invention, claim us new and desire to secure by iietters Patent:
1. A cigar-package, comprising ,2, and ejflexible wrapper surrounding; the some-end tightly fitting thereto, end new ing twisted ends beyond the ends of t cigar, end protecting buttons of Heeling-we supported upon said twisted ends in ciose proximity to end on the axial line of the cigar,
